Fresh install coming, I want no profiles, boot straight to desktop

Have parts coming for a new computer build.

Will be installing on a Samsung pro ssd. I own a retail version of windows 7 bought via Microsoft direct download and they latr mailed me a DVD.

Anyway, under my current install it boots up to a screen with my computer name, Main, and an Admin profile. I generally choose Main and it continues to load the desktop and I am ready to go.

I don't want this. I want to push the button and it goes straight to the desktop. I don't need profiles as I am generally the only one tht uses the pc.

How do I do this when I make my fresh install when my parts come in?

You will always have at least one user profile... below are 3 ways to not see the log on screen.

Option 1:
If you only create one user account/profile with no password during the installation process, then you should not see the log on screen during boot up... but that is not the best way to operate.

Option 2:
You can assign that 1st user account a password (since it is admin) & then:
Create a second user account/profile with no password...
...make that 2nd account a standard user
...hide the 1st account from the log on screen.

Option 3:
Assign a password to the 1st user account.
Assign a different password to the 2nd user account.
Optional step: Hide the 1st account (it is admin).
Have that 2nd account automatically log on.

It is probably best to use option 3 and hide the admin account. Always use the 2nd (standard account) for day to day use. When prompted for admin rights, enter the info from the 1st account.

As you know, that means that you are using the computer as an admin for day to day usage*. And (depending on your UAC settings) drive-by** infections might silently run with admin rights.


*To be clear, I do this too (but with a password).
I also run with the UAC all the way up.
I setup most users to use a standard account.

I set up all of my installs as the Admin which is all that is offered during a Win7 install. This is because the installer assumes the person installing is the owner or acting on his behalf, so should have full Admin rights.

There's only a few users here who I have suggested only run as Standard, because it becomes tedious and annoying to have to ask yourself for a permission password to change anything. UAC already alerts you when anything is trying to do this, yourself included.
