I was using the Win7 forum but it took half of forever to post. Anyway this is going to be a hell of an introduction. I'm 62 and a basket case. I'm trying, Lord knows I'm trying but a brain tumor cut me down. That couple with other health issues makes me very disabled and I'm 100% service-connected vet with physical, emotional and mental issues. I'm in a strange and confusing megalopolis, Dallas, having been brought here my son and virtually abandoned. I'm in independent living in an assisted living place and I despise it. I'm alone and have no help.

Enough  I did a fresh install on my desktop and HP quad core and I can't connect to the internet. My carrier is Verizon and though good, they're very hard to deal with employing "virtual agents." I don't know what else to say, I've turned into a dummy. I've built 5 websites but now geekspeak is like a foreign language. I'm a writer and was a games producer; I'm still trying but it a struggle for me just trying to keep my computers alive. I'm on a fixed income and I'll freely admit I'm a fool. I'm trying so hard but life has gotten too fast for me.

I'm getting on a plane tomorrow for GaryCon in Wisconsin, an rpg con honoring the originator of the hobby. I'd much rather be dead than alive but that'll never happen by my hand. I'll probably have time for a quick check here before I have to leave.

I'm from a different era, things were simpler, seems everything in the 21st century is complicated. Any help would truly be appreciated.

I might as well say I'm not enamored with MS, I hate IE and Bing. I run Firefox even I have a hard time managing it.

We still don't know what PC you have.

What network service does your location provide? Do they even have a WAN available?

In the bottom right corner of the screen, there's a network status icon. It will probably be red bars. Right click on it and select Troubleshoot Problems. Let it run to completion. It should give details of the results. What is the results from that?

You need to install the drivers for your network adapter.

Go to the HP support website, enter you PC model and download the NIC drivers.

It's an HP my provider is Verizon.
That narrows it down to about 2,000 different PCs but we need the exact HP model number.

Doctore is correct but I was hoping to get the download link for you. You won't be able to use the HP auto-detect feature on the site because you don't have an internet connection. You'll need to use a different PC to download the NIC drivers AND download the drivers for the motherboard (HP model specific) if you didn't use the HP recovery partition to reinstall Windows. You may be better off taking the PC to a service center and have them download and install the necessary drivers for you. It can get a little involved.

Still futzing. Tried to install VIPRE on my desktop. No damned internet. Going to the HP website does me no good either. I have to get my work computer going now!

If I could actually work again instead of being a damned cripple.

The model number should be on the outside. Usually on a black sticker on the bottom if a laptop or on the back if desktop. This is NOT the Windows CoA sticker. Don't post that number.

Added: You haven't responded to any of the directions. Go back through the thread and review each post. We are also waiting to hear the results of those directions.

That's the only number I could find on the back of the desktop. It has a barcode on the same sticker.

my frickin' computer

All right, I went to HP's website to find the info. Tried to find the driver download, but no luck. I have an HP Pavilion 6000 series, serial # 4CE0350117, PRODUCT # BM419AA#ABA, MODEL # p6620f

Too many frickin' numbers for a slightly dyslexic blind man.

I'm not used to IE or Bing. I use Firefox. Tried to go online to set my main machine up and it says I'm offline. Checked in Tools and unchecked the radio button, no help. And it's trying to connect thru the WAN port and not thru my new driver. I have trouble w/ Mozilla now but I absolutely detest IE and Bing. I'm not even enamored with MS but I made my bed, I gotta lie in it.

It's HELL where I'm living now. Can't think, can't function.
