Fresh installation of Windows 7/update to win 10

Hello,

I used to complete a fresh installation of my OS (win 7) every couple of years to speed up the boot and remove old files ect. I have been reluctant to do this for many years now due to win 7 support stopped. My main concern is not locating the now old updates to my current state. This there some where all win 7 updates/security patches are located that can be either downloaded or installed direct from. I still use win 7 due to some games/software will not work on win 10.

I am looking at having a dual boot. Installing a fresh win 7 on another drive (with the latest updates asked above) then upgrading to win 10 with current win 7 installation (or fresh installation) on current drive.

Should this have been already asked please advise me of the post it relates to.

800Gb hard drive ((partitioned c:/ current win 7 OS with games/download partitions drive) Intended to be the upgraded win 10 OS)
300Gb SSD (location of intended new win 7 location)

win 7 on another drive

the word "drive" can mean several things. One possibility is to migrate ( sometimes called "clone" ) the current win7 onto it and then upgrade the win7 on the hd to win10.

For anybody that wants to do that:
Free version of diskgenius has an excellent os migration feature
DiskGenius: Data Recovery, Partition Manager, Backup & Disk Utilities

For anybody that would rather have a fresh win7 on the ssd, then you could use dism++ or simplix to do the updates.
First you could backup activation and drivers from your current installation using dism++

To have Win 10 on a separate drive you can:
- Clone the current Win 7 installation, detach any other drives and then upgrade - Upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 for Free | Tutorials
- Use Win 7 key to do a Win 10 clean install Remember to detach any other drives - Clean Install Windows 10 | Tutorials

You can do a Win 7 Clean install and then update it with Single file with all updates - Simplix
