Solved Fresh win7 installation, keyb/mouse stop working on setup new user

My boss just bought a new computer for his office network environment.

It came with windows 10 home on it, and the network is controlled by an sbs2008, the 2 are not compatible. I was asked to Install windows 7 pro on the new machine so it could be added to the network environment without any hassle.

I made a windows 7 pro 32 bit bootable usb drive, ran into the usual usb3.0 issues with newer computers and win 7, so i added usb 3.0 drivers to it using win7-usb3.0-Creator, disabled secure boot in the BIOS as well as changing it to legacy so it actually recognizes the USB when i try to boot from it.

Mouse and keyboard worked during installation, the only remaining issue was that the partition was GPT which didnt work for win 7 , so i used CMD to diskpart, tried to convert to MBR but it wouldn't take it so ended up having to format it and then install from there.

It all went smoothly from that point on and i thought i was in the clear until i got to first time setup and had to make a user. The keyboard and mouse had once again mysteriously stopped working. So now i cannot add a user and get past the initial setup point.

I was wondering if anyone else has run into this issue and knows a potential fix.

The computer in question is an Acer tc-710-Eb51 with the following specs

i5-6400 quadcore @ 2.70 Ghz
h110 express chipset model
8gb ddr3 sdram
1tb serial ata/300
intel hd graphics 530 (onboard)

If this is a desktop, and if the desktop has PS/2 ports for keyboard and mouse, go ahead and test both a PS/2 keyboard and mouse. PS/2 usually has a faster response than usb KB & MSE. And, PS/2 just might solve the problem you are having.

unfortunately no ps2 ports on the dekstop :/, otherwise i would have definitely used them, i always keep a ps2 mouse and keyboard handy in the office for exactly those reasons

Have you checked all the other Bios options??

there do not seem to be any other ones that would affect the mouse and keyboard as far as i can see.

There is no advanced section listed and i've tried most Fx keys to see if an advanced section will open to no avail.

Are these usb 2.0 ports the k & m are plugged into or 3.0 ??

I think the problem is that you injected the 3.0 drivers into the installer, but now that you`re at windows, it needs the 3.0 drivers to continue.

If you`re plugged into 3.0 ports.

When you added the USB 3 drivers to the installation disk, you added only to the installation wizard.
When it installs win7 to the HDD it copy another part of the Win 7 installation that doesn't have the USB 3 drivers and then you ended with a installation that doesn't have USB 3 drivers and you don't have keyboard or mouse.

As you installed win 7 32, it won't be capable to use more than 3.2G of memory. To use all memory (8G) you must install win 7 64. And I suggest you try to install as UEFI-GPT. Disable fast boot and secure boot (OS=Other) and enable CSM with UEFI.

If the MoBo has a PS2 keyboard corrector you can attach a PS2 keyboard to it and load the USB 3 drives navigating with the keyboard. Put the USB drivers to a cd or with a Linux USB disk copy them to C:\drivers.

thanks for the help guys, I did not know x32 only supported up to 3.2gigs of memory, i have made a new usb install disc for win 7 pro x64. and solved the problem while i was it.

i found a BIOS setting to emulate PS2 mouse and keyboard for installations that do not come preloaded with drivers. However the option was oddly tucked away under pc health status, the last place i would look for it
