Solved Fresh Win7, no net, lcl area connect doesn't have valid ip config

Hoping I can get some help, this one is a head-scratcher.

I have a PC that was having an unrelated problem and decided the simplest fix would be to reformat the HD then reinstall win 7. I've done this before without any problems; however, this time the PC will not connect to the home network and is giving me the message "local area connection doesn't have a valid ip configuration". I made no hardware changes, just a win 7 reinstall. I have several other computers on the network connected to the internet. I have reset the modem, and have bypassed the switch so the computer is connected directly to the modem. I have installed network adapter drivers and there is no exclamation point next to the device in the device manager.

I tried to do an ipconfig /renew and got this:

I will leave this here in case anybody else has this problem. I reinstalled win7 again with no fix. I tried doing the winsh reset for ipv4 and ipv6 and a 3rd entity I don't recall which did not work.

The solution? I have a spare NIC and I threw that into the machine and moved the ethernet cable from the on-board to the add-on. Unfortunately my office is dark and I put the NIC into an incompatible slot and the computer would not boot. I removed the NIC, rebooted, and noted that I had an X instead of a ! by my network icon. I thought to myself "why not" and I plugged the ethernet cable back into the original motherboard NIC and the effing thing started working. I know this shouldn't have done anything but whatever... So bottom line: try and fry your computer, and then plug the cord back in after a restart seems to be the technical tour de force required to solve this problem.
