Front mic panel not working, "not plugged in"

Ok im at wits end! Im pretty sure i got this to work before. But i forgot how to do it. My front mic panel doesnt work ive spent hours trying to find the solution but failed

The front panel used to work before so im sure it shouldnt be a hardware issue. About six months ago i was tweeking the settings and somehow managed to make the back panel the default, but that disabled the front port, i didnt care at the time coz i didnt need it. I want my speakers hooked up to the back panel while my headset and mic to be hooked up to the front panels. My problem is that it keeps telling me that the mic is not plugged in even though it is, and yes the mic and earphones are plugged in the right place. Any tips on what i need to do? Ive already reinstalled the motherboard OS if that helps.

Also the front earphone slot was working yesterday while the mic wasnt, but i tweeked with it too much and now both the earphone slot and the mic slot have stopped working.

What you mean for motherboard OS?

Try going in your BIOS settings (during boot press a key like F2 or Del, it should tell you what key to press to enter Setup in the white text) and look for audio settings in its panels.
If that does not work I'd try uninstalling the audio drivers and reinstalling them again.

Go here, download the most recent file in the "AUDIO" category, then go to Device Manager (write "device manager" in the Start menu searchbox) and then look in the category "sound, video and game controllers" to find your audio device, double click on it and in the new panel select the Driver tab, then select "uninstall", and then tick the box about deleting the driver. Close all these panels.
Then go in Programs and features (again Start searchbox if you cannot find it), and look for your audio utilities, and uninstall them.

Then reboot (power down and power up) and install the drivers (and probably utilities) that are in the package you downloaded a few lines above.

Is you problem EXACTLY like the one listed or just that your mic is not recognized?

More specific info would help, and you should have started a new thread for your problem.

Two things I note from your "My System Specs". First if you only have the High Definition Audio Device drivers, that says you do not have the driver for the actual sound hardware, that is only a Windows installed generic, basic function driver. Install the correct driver from HP and see if that makes a difference.

Second, you list Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS. With only 4 GB of RAM you should be using the 32 bit version. The main reason for using a 64 bit OS is that it will use (address) more than 4 GB of RAM. In fact, a 64 bit OS uses more of the basic memory than the 32 bit version does, thus leaving you less for programs.

Hp doesn't provide 32 bit drivers for my computer. It only has drivers for 64-bit Windows 8, and 64-bit Windows 7. None other. The 64-bit drivers don't install on a 32-bit machine. Soundcard is a Realtek HD Audio. I installed the drivers from the Hp website and still not work. I think my computer mistakens my microphone for headphones because there is no sound from the speakers when I plug my microphone in.

My problem might be more related to my post here

I am having the same problem on my laptop. Same realtek hd audio and everything. Nothing here has helped. My computer recognizes my microphone as headphones as well, I have no option to disable the jack. Any other ideas you may give?
