Solved FTP access thru Windows explorer

Hello all,

Until a few days ago I was able to access a FTP site (local) via windows explorer; now every time I try to open, instead opening in windows explorer the site opens on my browser...

I already tried to turn off firewall; open port on my router and also open the port on the firewall...
But I'm still not able to open in explorer...

I don't want to install a FTP client and the FTP site address change often.

I need some help;

Can Windows Explorer even open FTP addresses? Are you sure you were not just accessing the FTP as a shared folder?

yes....

on the address bar just type ftp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxxx:yyyy where's the x is the ip address and the y is the port



Not a share folder.... I was using to access my android tablet.... on my tablet I use ES File Explorer; on it they have an option to turn the tablet into a local ftp server... So it's very easy to copy files between the tablet and the pc

Ok, not sure of this would help you but..

I installed FileZilla FTP Server on a Virtual Machine. Explorer works alright to browse the FTP site, however, there is also an option to view FTP site with File Explorer if you click Alt and expand the View menu in Internet Explorer. See if it will help your case.

I access FTP like this. Navigate to your FTP site with internet explorer then in IE menu you have option to view in explorer window which will change to the view you are after
I then save this as a shortcut on desktop so when I need it again I just double click and a file explorer window opens.

If you cleared your history or similar then it may just be that you have lost the logon/password saved for your FTP share so you would need to amend the end of the FTP address with @username then you would be prompted for password when connecting

Strange enough, when I try to click "Open FTP site in Explorer" under the view tab, nothing happens....

The FTP site it's local and is accessible via another pcs with Windows explorer... it's just this pc.

Since it's local, there's no username or password.

Is there a way to change the registry? So can be permanently open via explorer?

Check this option is ticked - Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Browsing -> Enable FTP folder view (outside of internet explorer).
Also the option (just a bit further down) - Use Passive FTP

Thank you! I follow the post(link) and it works now....

I was missing two values in the registry "ShellFolder" and "Source Filter"; after adding that everything is back to normal.
