hi,

This is probably a very simple question, I've somehow managed to use my new wifi router and made a workgroup that includes my desktop and laptop computers.Certain partitions between them are shared on the network.

Now, the only problem I'm having is I want full write access from both pcs. When I go into Sharing>Permissions>Add>Users I can't seem to see the other pcs user name? What am I supposed to do? Add the same username for the other pc?

Thanks
Gideon

Hey.

Actually, every single hard drive/partition from every machine is shared across the network.

Don't believe me? Then run this command from a command prompt:

net share

It will show you all the shares. The $ means that they are hidden on the network. You can map them from remote machines by using the C$, D$ etc...

To fix your problem, in the sharing tab, add a user by typing in everyone. Then set the appropriate permissions you want to give.

hi,

I have 1 desktop with 1 User(Family) and 1 Laptop with 1 User(Gideon). Now I want write access from the desktop to the laptop. In file sharing>permissions *on the desktop* I cannot see user names on the workgroup.

Thanks
Gideon

On the desktop, go to control panel, Network and Sharing Center. Click change advanced sharing settings near top left. Click the dropdown for the type of network you set it as.

Turn on file and printer sharing.

Turn on password protected sharing.

In Windows Explorer, click Organize | Folder and Search options. View tab. Uncheck the box for Use Sharing Wizard (Recommended) and hit ok.

Then as I said, add everyone by typing everyone into the users for the sharing tab of what you want to share. Then set the permissions for the everyone you just created.

You'll have to click advanced sharing, then permissions, then add. Type everyone, hit ok. Check the box for full control. Hit ok.

That's alright. You're not supposed to and that will not cause any issues for you, as long as you have everyone like you do.

Ok, I am having a problem with sharing between my desktop and laptop.

The specific problem is that I cannot transfer files from my desktop to my laptop....but I CAN do so vice verse.

This makes no sense, as I did not set these PCs up differently. I went through the folder sharing/security configs on both PCs to compare the two...they are the same. I just don't see why they are acting differently.

Just for laughs, I did add the Everyone into the shared list that was missing from both computers, but this did not remedy the situation. I still get "destination folder access denied."

Similar issue here and it's damn frustrating! I'm reduced to using sneakernet thanks to Win7.

I see numerous issues with "Destination Folder Access Denied" online but no satisfactory solutions -- what gives, Microsoft?
