Gadgets in Windows 7 Sidebar not displayed correctly

My Win7 64bit sidebar gadgets are displaying themselves as either a white block or in the case of the clock it is only displaying the second hand on a black background.

I found this solution for Vista, would it also work for Win7 without screwing things up?:

When I open Windows Sidebar, the clock gadget is displayed as a black square. All other gadgets show up as white rectangles with one of those information (i) icons and a plus sign. The settings button next to the gadget does not work, but the x to close does. Here is a screenshot:

This behavior is observed if the XML registration is missing in the system. To fix the problem, use the following steps:

• Close Windows Sidebar. To do so, right-click on the Sidebar icon in the Notification area and click Exit
• Open an elevated Command Prompt window. To do so, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
• In the Command Prompt window, type the following and press ENTER:

regsvr32 msxml3.dll
​

Similarly, run these commands:

regsvr32 scrrun.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
​

If the registration was successful, you'll see the message DllRegisterServer in <filename> succeeded for each command executed. Open Windows Sidebar (sidebar.exe) and check if the problem is resolved.

Looks like it would but as in all thing Backup before you do. The cmds will work but have a backup, restore point and wiin 7dvd just in case.

Failed!

Registering those 3 x .ddl's did not fix the problem.

Try this:

Start> In search box type Turn windows features on or off> Scroll down to Windows Gadget Platform> Untick the box> Restart PC and reverse instructions, putting the check mark back

See if that has helped anything. If no fix, will suggest running the System File Checker

Problem Solved.

I gave up on the above fixes and a lot of others via Google with the exception A Guy's above.

I restored my C:\ with an Acronis Image that I made the day before I went away on holidays ow everything is back to the way it should be, I even loaded the MS Updates 1 x 1 to see if they caused the problem but alas, no change, so whatever the problem was we will never know.

Thanks to all those people above for their suggestions and time in assisting me with the problem.
