game play on steam just stops

During any gaming session with L4D and L4D2 including some addon's, The game will just stop and the screen will disappear as if I was disconnected. I use a dual monitor setup up. When this happens there are no error messages, monitor 1 goes to my desktop and steam itself does not crash. Steam says I'm still connected and shows me online.

try disabling your secondary monitor. i hear that duel setups can cause such issues.

After two years of running a dual monitor setup and a year with steam....all of a sudden this starts....I find that hard to belive.

My L4D2 game started crashing to Destop a week ago or so. About 5 min in game, and Id be back at destop. No crash errors ... nothing. Just as if I closed the game.

Not sure what was causing it but deleting L4D2, and then letting STEAM re-download fixed the problem.

Might be worth a try if all else fails.

I only use 1 monitor though.

Exacatly...as if I closed the game...and no crash errors either. I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem....I'll give your suggestion a try and see what happens. Very strange.

I'm having exact same issue with Mafia II on steam, game is just closing as if it had been commanded, no errors or anything.

You have to account for game updates and stuff too. Sure it can work fine, but if they update, and change something in the code, that could kill compatibility with any given setup. L4d2 is always getting overhauled with updates, not to mention steam itself. there are countless variables. hell, even a windows update might break it. experiment with some settings, both hardware and software.

HERE is the latest 'specific' driver i can find for you card, in case it is i a driver issue... Ati and there many, many different drivers.. that actually took a few minutes to find lol. there's literally like 20 variations of that card.

if that don't work, meh.. i tried.
