I'm running x86 on a Gateway 7320GZ. After upgrading to 7 I have no sound. There doesn't appear to be any problem with the drivers etc...in fact, when i click on the speaker I can see the volume bars moving...but I have no sound.

I've followed other posts and tried installing the appropriate Gateway driver package using compatibilty mode...no dice. I've tried installing the drivers recommended by Windows Update Catalog (the drivers were found after entering the PCI info) but that didn't work either. I've tried manually installing the Vista drivers.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Downloaded drivers from Gateway and ran in XP mode...nothing. Manually updated driver (using driver from Gateway)...nothing.

Probably old news, but I found this post when having the exact same problem on the same laptop. Using "Win XP sp3" compatability mode during the install DID WORK FOR ME. Make sure you have extracted all of the Gateway audio driver files and also check "run as administrator". After running I did not get any other indications that it had run successfully, BUT when I looked down at the speaker icon in the taskbar it had changed. When I tested with a music file I finally had sound...
