gateway computer slow response time

I have a question about my gateway-Acer computer it worked fine and now the response time is beyond slow it takes' forever to open a program I DEFRAG the system
also checked disc everything
checked for malware but when I click on something it sometimes takes
up to a minute to respond any idea you have I would appreciate
even typing this message there is a wait time for each letter it seems to be freezing up
when running in safe mode runs like new

What happens if you start Windows in Safe Mode? Is it still slow there?

That probably suggests that you have some startup program slowing you down. Check those one by one.

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I would also starting in normal mode use resource monitor to see what is really going on
There have been many reports of svchost using way too much cpu = processor resources continuously

You can click Start and type in the search box
resource monitor
or open tack manager by right clicking your taskbar
Then go to the performance section and on the bottom use resource monitor button.

All I noticed a lot of activity was
sv host exe 1,132,68 working set kb

all the graphs show a lot of activity

Okay yea it's eating up all of your ram/ memory but the cpu is only at 14% unfortunately you did not expand that section though
Click on the Memory listing on the top left menu listings and post that screen shot please.

Thanks it doesn't take much to soak up 3gb's of ram now days and that is all you have to spare
svchost looked like it calmed down during that other screen shot too,
You might think of using this to see what type of ram/ memory upgrades are available

The screen print in post #16 is not scrolled to the top of the list showing what's using the most RAM.
The first program in the list is MsMpEng.exe, but there are other programs above that using more RAM that we can't see.

In post #14 it was svchost.exe (netsvcs) using a lot of RAM, but that process is not displayed in post #16.
