question, i finally got a Gateway NV53 with Windows 7 to restore from discs, restarted, and now it's sitting at the 'Setup is applying system settings'. the graphic is still moving under the text, but nothing from the activity light. it's been a bit over two and half hours. is this normal? i would hate to cancel it if it's normal, ha.

and also, i had my drivers and applications disc in when it restarted after restore. should i have hit f12 to choose boot from disc?

thanks!!!

i did the full restoration, if that's what you mean. said it would totally wipe it. and actually, after 6 hours i reset computer, just reinstalled windows, and now it gets through setup to finalizing windows installation (just after asking which wireless to use) and gives me a BSOD. i also can't get it to connect to any internet at all even though it detects the router.

thanks!

can i get to command prompt? only way i'm finding it possible is through safe mode with command prompt, and it says cannot complete installation, restart computer to continue installing windows.

k, my case is different, i guess. my version of windows 7 is the 'Gateway Recovery Management". none of those methods work for my recovery discs.

so, up to this point, i've done a full restore with recovery discs, restarted and had it stall at 'applying system settings' during initial setup, reinstalled windows and now it won't fully finalize the initial setup. quite the frustrating computer, i'm finding it to be, lol.

The Acer HD Drive wipe is very good.

all i'm finding is to hit alt f10 to get to the hdd wipe, and that just takes me to the startup options (safemode, normal, etc.).

also tried r, and got the same.

You are not booting the CD.

well, can't get the Acer HD Drive wipe to work. tried alt 'f10' and 'r', but both take me to the startup options (e.g. safe mode, normal, etc.)
