Hi all,

I was just wondering, what influenced the decision to split up the Windows 7, 8 and 10 forums into separate discussion forums? I'd have thought it would be beneficial to have integrated them all into one?

Apologies if this is in the wrong section!

Cheers,
Joe

Well, they are quite different beasts. Might as well have a single forum for PC's, Macs and Linux. :p

Well, then that user can go to each forum, lumping them all together would be crazy, too many heads butting :banghead:

We`d all be saying 8 and 10 stink and they`d get mad and so on :roflmao:

But seriously, keeping them seperate is better :)

Here are the sister forums. One can join which ones they want to.
It's not hard to do and it does make things a lot more organized. These forums are listed at the bottom of every page on this forum.

Eek, there's different OS sections on the PC help forum too... I'll, er, try and keep it simple and keep to this one and maybe the Windows 10 one x)

When they are all horses of a different color it makes it easier when problems/questions arise and you
don't have to go round and round getting to what version is being used as all have their unique
differences in what they respond to and what it takes to fix it.
I can't help you fix a Ford when you have a Chevy. Too many Q's and it becomes discombobulated. ;)

The forums have grown organically over the last ten years and it was decided when Windows 7 replaced Vista that a separate forum would be the best idea, and we have followed this successful formula ever since.

As an experiment as to whether it would be better to combine all Windows versions into one forum we acquired PC help forums to see how that format would work, It's nowhere near as good as the separate forums.

As for the separation being better to stop arguments between fanboys of any particular operating system verbally abusing others who choose to use a different operating system, this is never an issue - if anybody starts it they'll soon be banned from all our sites permanently

The Windows 7, 8, and 10 forums were never really split as they were always separate. There are advantages and disadvantages in separate and integrated forums and neither is clearly superior to the other. I have no particular issues with separate forums and I expect it be even less of a problem for the large majority of people who come here for help, most of whom are using only one OS.

I personally like Johns forums just the way they are.
Efficient, polite and full of help and information that isn't hard to find.
When one compares Johns forums to the many other forums on the net, John and his people keep the forum enjoyable. Places to learn and help others. To me a big thumbs up is the forms are not overly cluttered.

To John (z3r010) and his helpers; GOOD JOB.
