Hello guys, Im new here and have found your lovely community to be really helpfull but Im still stuck on a handfull of problems with My Windows 7 run PC.

If anyone could try and help run me through the following Id be very greatfull. But please bare with me as Im not 100% literate with PC's (Although not too bad) so may need laymans terms so to speak.

If anyone can help me fix any of the following problems without going the way of complete reinstallation Id be most greatfull.

1/ My first problem is the speed/latancy of my PC, Its lagging quite alot now after running smoothly for a good 4 years with only 1 complete reinstall (from vista to win7 ultimate 32bit which Im running now)

Im finding it slowing to snail pace at times and when I open a large program like Photoshop only recently but it seems to not like this as much and even turns my PC to look more like Windows 98 when opening folders/web browsers all horrible and blocky.

2/ I seem to have encountered a google type virus, which basically feels the need to open up adverts when I click on a link Ive seached for on google.

Malwarebytes doesnt pick anything up
Adaware picks up a load of unrelavant stuff
Search & Destroy finds nothing

But I still have the problem, Ive read up about it and even after deleting the problem you can still have this infecting your PC. Ive tried looking in the registry and looking at links on google where people have had the same problem but nothing.

3/ I have an external HDD which runs pretty smoothly. I keep it only for music and recently found 1 folder would slow up the entire drive to the point of crashing when ever I opened it and tried listening to the music in that folder. looking into this it has seemed to be 1 .wav file that has been causing problems, Ive removed this now and its sat in my recycle bin, Nothing will remove it from recycle though its just sat there, Cant delete it, Cant delete it with disk cleaner etc. nothing its still there :/

Any help on these matters especially the google virus & latancy issue would be muchly appriciated.

Let's clean out the junk files to start which can slow things down.

I made a mistake fixed now.
Click Start> All Programs> Accesories> System Tools> Then right click Disk Clean Up and left click run as Administrator.
New window select the Win 7 installation drive. Mine is C but yours may be different. Click Okay.

New window opens with temp files etc. that can be deleted. See below pictures.
Checkmark if not done already the ones I have marked. There may be others.

If you highlight a selection it will show you what type files are held in the folder. If you click View files it will show you exactly what is in the folder.

Click okay and this will delete files in these folders.

It may get rid of the music file also from Recycle bin.

This is a good first step to clear the junk out of the system.
Then go from here.
Mike

Also what internet browser are you using? Let us know when you did the above.

Run your antimalware software in safe mode (reboot, just before windows logo appear, press F8, choose "Safe mode") and see what happens, sometimes they are unable to find bad stuff on normal mode. After that, wipe you HDD of any temporary or junk files you may have all around (Hopalong X has shown you how), you can use also CCleaner if you want to be more sure (although windows cleaner does its job quite well).

If none of this works, try an online AV scanner and see if it finds something... do this to your external HDD as it may be iinfected too (as far as I can see I hope I'm wrong).

I heard that Hitman Pro does it's stuff pretty well, you can use it to clean your PC against this pest.

See ya!!! :D
