Getting a message saying that a file is open, when it's not

Just noticed something else interesting. I can not delete the folder that those files reside in - when I select the folder/delete, I get that same error. This actually makes sense; if you cant delete a file, you shouldn't be able to delete the folder that holds that file. But that is only true after I click on one of those files.

Here is the repro:

Boot into W7
Open My Comp > G
Select the Music Vids folder/delete. It deletes
Undo, the folder appears back in the G dir
Double click Music Vids, and open it
Using the back arrow at the top left of the window, navigate back to G
Select the Music Vids folder/delete. It deletes
Undo, the folder appears back in the G dir
Double click Music Vids, and open it
Click on one of the "problem files"; it is selected
Using the back arrow at the top left of the window, navigate back to G
Select the Music Vids folder/delete. It does not delete, and I get the aforementioned error

So, merely selecting one of the "problem files" puts this issue into motion. As I said, I will try what you suggested later, but this is really strange.

The problem could be in trying to parse the metadata for the file that is displayed at the bottom of the explorer window when you click on a file. I don't believe it parses anything else when you click on a file, unless you are displaying it in thumbnail mode which it then parses and decodes the video to produce the thumbnail.

AHA! Now we are getting somewhere. It's not a thumbnail thing per ce; this happens regardless of how the files are displayed: list, details, etc.

BUT - the files that do not have this issue, in the bottom of the folder window, when selected, display filename, length, frame width and height, rating, file association, size, date modified, date created, frame rate. The files that do have the issue do not display length, frame width and height, frame rate nor length.

Ok, that MeteoriteGUI fix was it - it created new files thatcan now be deleted/renamed. And these files show all of the metadata in WinExplorer (see previous post).

So, when W7 cant parse all of the metadate properly, it grabs and holds that file, is what it seems?

Nice! Glad you got this one sorted.

Well, even if it is displaying metadata, the parsing function could still be hung and causing the freeze. It just may have frozen at a point that doesn't affect the display of the metadata. I'm only surmising, though.
