New installation, Win 7 Version 6.1 SP 1 on HP8470p laptop.

I have installed all my data into a new Users Folder on my new(to me) laptop in order to preserve the complicated file structure I have been successfully using on my previous Win 7 installation on my older laptop, which gave no problems. All was similarly stored in a separate User Folder on my old laptop.

I now find that I whenever I save a file to a folder I get a warning message saying 'You do not have permission to modify files in this network location', despite my being set up as Administrator and supposedly having Ownership and Full Control permissions. When I close the Error Message, however, I notice that the file has, in fact, been saved!

What causes the message to appear and what can I do to stop it, please?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum. You need to check permission if you have copied from another system folders will be owned by the old user from the other pc and likely will show as a Sid number of old user they may inherit permission from above

Thanks for prompt reply, but I don't have the knowledge to change the Sid number (System id number?), I'm afraid, so a little hand-holding is required, please!

The computer names on the two laptops are quite different.

Thanks

More info on original post (why can't I edit it - time limit presumably?)

IT SEEMS THAT THE FILE APPEARS TO SAVE AS STATED IN MY POST, BUT ONCE CLOSED AND RE-OPENED IT IS ACTUALLY EMPTY.

Set the main folder permissions to allow Everyone to write, and all seems to be fine now.

Thanks for setting me on the right track.
