Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H Intermittent USB failure with mouse and keyboard

I upgraded my system at the beginning of January with an i7-4770K in a Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H with 16GB of G.Skill Trident X memory. Almost immediately after build, I started running into a problem with my USB ports. The primary problem is that my mouse will often stop responding for a few seconds, followed by the Windows USB disconnect sound, after which it will begin working again. At first I thought it was only occurring when I let my mouse sit unused for an extended period of time, but soon found that it could happen at any time and in any condition. In addition to the issues with my mouse, my keyboard will occasionally completely disconnect (all lights are off) and will remain unusable until I unplug the connector from the USB port and then reconnect. This latter issue has only happened once while the computer was running, but has happened during reboot at least five to seven times.

I have spent some time working through the issue on other forums and have already tried changing the USB ports the devices are connected to, updating my USB and other system drivers, disabling legacy USB in the BIOS, reflashing the BIOS, disabling Windows' ability to power down my USB ports, completely uninstalling and reinstalling all USB drivers, and even work through the general USB driver fix found on this forum, but none of these fixes have affected the problem. One suggestion I haven't been able to try is to disable USB 3.0 support, but unfortunately this doesn't seem to be possible as my BIOS version does not have an option to do this, and even if it did, I would much prefer to leave is enabled as I do use two USB 3.0 external drives.

Anyway, I'm really hoping to find some additional help in resolving the problem here as I have not been able to solve this problem elsewhere and many Google searches have not yielded a fix.

Sorry to report, I have intermittent mouse response with a Logitech wireless mouse and my Gigabyte motherboard (GA Z77X UD5H). I tried a Logitech wireless keyboard and it too had the same problem. However, the same Logitech wireless mouse on my other system with an ASUS Z77 motherboard does not do this.

My Gigabyte motherboard had other problems and was sent back for warranty repair. The returned board (looks like a different board) still has the same intermittent mouse response.

So basically you're telling me that I made a mistake in buying a Gigabyte board? I had concerns about this when I was figuring out what I wanted to buy, but my board does get decent reviews and as of yet I've only been able to find a few people with the same or similar problem, so there must be something fixable going on here that I've yet to find.

I don't think its "all" Gigabyte boards and not "all" keyboards and mice. I'm now using a Microsoft wireless keyboard/mouse and it seems to be working OK with the replacement motherboard.

I just want to post to let you know that I too had the problem and apparently with Logitech.

The mouse I'm using is a Thermal Take TTe Level 10M Gaming mouse and the Keyboard is a Saitek Cyborg. I have since gone out and gotten a USB 2.0 I/O plate for the back of the computer and moved both of the devices to those connections and so far neither has given me issue. I read somewhere a while back that some motherboards shouldn't have the mouse or keyboard connected to a USB 3.0 port, but that this was supposedly fixed with this generation of boards. Time will tell if this really fixes the problem, but if it does, I'll have a bone to pick with Gigabyte for not shipping their boards with at least a couple USB 2.0 ports.

My Gigabyte motherboard has two USB 2.0 ports on the I/O panel, which are the ones I'm using.

I've never had problems with Logitech devices (wired or wireless) on any other system, just this one with the Gigabyte motherboard. As noted I have a second system (a backup as I use my PC's for recording studio) with an ASUS Z77 motherboard and also a Lenovo laptop and the Logitech wireless mice work without problems on those. Prior to upgrading my primary recording studio systems to the Gigabyte and ASUS, I had a home built with an Intel motherboard and a Dell Dimension E510 and both of those also worked without problems with Logitech.
