I use ISO recorder which is a really nice, lightweight tool to burn DVD's and CD's for data storage; this tool just hooks right into the OS and it is found in the right click secondary menu. It also gives you the ability to create ISO image files as well. As far as burning music, i just use the Windows Media Player and i find it to be a vast improvement over WMP11. Also, i really like how Microsoft got rid of that stupid 2 second delay in between tracks when burning songs onto a CD.
I mainly use what is convenient and familiar to me. I can't burn DVD's from my laptop which is my personal computer. I can't really say what software is good to burn a DVD for movie viewing and so i can watch a movie in my DVD player. If anyone has any suggestions on some really good, free software, i would love ot hear them.

ultraiso is the best as nothing else works for my laptop rather than this old stuff -no choice really
I just found out the Cyberlink Power2Go and it works perfectly and it successfully burned win7 to an unreadable disk

I use BurnAware Pro it's nice and simple even burns Blu-Rays they do have a free version of their burning software and does support Windows 7 both 32 bit and 64 bit

I used to use CDBurnerXP..but found that it tended to spike my CPU core's to 100% while burning a disc. I then switched to IMGBurn and haven't had problems since.

regarding ISO Recorder:
i went and installed the latest version on my Windows 7 x64 PC and it reset my IE8 settings. Thankfully, i had a program installed safeguarding some of them. But, i don't like any program which changes your settings, and settings that have nothing to do with any function of your PC without your permission, no less. UNINSTALL!

Im assuming you want a decent free alternative.
Not sure what capabilities you are looking for, but nero does off a stripped and gutted version of Nero9 for free.
If Im not mistaken, it only has a few basic funtions.
Erase Disc, burn DATA CD/DVD and I think it can burn ISO to disc (could be mistaken)
AS far as Im aware. it can not convert MP3s into a Audio disc, but WMP can do that so no worries there.
Then theres IMGBURN which is an excellent & quite powerfull freeware utility.
