Google Chrome vs. Firefox

I have heard both sides of the story. I have always had FF and am reluctant to change even though a couple of people have told me so. I have googled Chrome and there are absolutely all mixed feelings, as I am sure there will be on here. But if I could have some reasons why one if better than another, I would love to hear them.

I continue to use FF because of the plugins, esp the "All-in-one sidebar", FF has a better GUI, FF is more flexible than Chrome, and there's no real speed difference between the two. Chrome looks a little slicker, but I don't care about that.

I looked through your thread at the Firefox forum.

Ignore that warning you got when you entered "about:config" in the Firefox browser bar.

Enter about:config in the address bar.

Do you then see a screen that looks like what you see below?

If you do, then do this:

Enter general.useragent in the Filter box.

If any of the preferences still displayed are shown as "user set" under the status column, right-click (context click) the preference and select "Reset".

That is what they were trying to get you to do because it seems there is something screwy about your Firefox version information that may relate to its performance on your PC.

I used to use a lot of FF plug-ins, but then found that I really didn't need most of them. I then preferred a faster browser startup.

What has sold Chrome for me is the Sync feature which I think works fabulous. So, my bookmarks, and bookmark bar are synced on my work desktop, my laptop and my home desktop. I know that FF can do the sync, but the Google one just seems to do it a whole lot better.

So, i'm a 7+ year Firefox user convert to Google Chrome in the past 6 months.

Was thinking about the same thing this morning, but I use lots of plugins. Speed difference is minimal as pc now days are powerful handle the browser.

That's correct. That's the error. Ignore it.

I have never used Chrome. I doubt that it will cure your ills, in and of itself. You would have to become familiar with it. You may like it. I have no idea.

A better move may be to do a THOROUGH uninstall of Firefox.

Then a reinstallation of Firefox, with as few toolbars and add-ons as you can stand.

Hey Patti!

Ggreg mentioned that Chrome logs a lot of your information (Spyware), and he knows what he is talking about.

If you want my opinion, I would choose Internet Explorer 9 over everything, but if it is limited to those options, I'd go with firefox.

I have never liked IE, went to FF years ago because of it. I also agree that I would have to learn Chrome and I would rather learn how to fix what I have for now - if it is fixable.

As part of that uninstallation and reinstallation, did you back up your bookmarks and then delete a folder called "Mozilla" from this location:

C:\Users\your user name\appdata\roaming

??

I have both Chrome and Firefox, and I prefer Firefox. Explorer 9 recently passed both Firefox and Chrome on Windows 7 machines, although Explorer 8 is still the most popular Windows 7 browser.

I installed Sea Monkey today, but I don't see that it is any better than Firefox.

ignat I didn't do that. I just went to control panel uninstalled Mozilla Firefox, then went to a website and downloaded that. Did that a couple of times, whenever someone told me too.

I use Firefox and Opera (rarely Chrome, IE or Safari) on the computer, and Safari and Opera Mini on my phone.
