One would think, that considering who big google is, and how many people this affects, that this problem would have been resolved by now.

Well, based on what Thrash posted, I checked all the SSLs on the Advanced tab, so I can Google. It seems to work. I think I should be OK until Google gets this sorted out. (Famous last words)

It worked one time then back to no search results.

Your choice enabling ssl's I wouldn't
Just bookmark the non ssl url I posted
Or when on the other link just click on the new google logo on the top left
Then use that search box that comes up that's how I saw the difference in addresses ;)

SSL is the problem then? I've been messing about and Google Search Box works fine in all browsers for me. I use:

Code:
https://encrypted.google.com

Interestingly if I switch Secret Agent into Stealth Mode I get various results as it rotates User Agent and Request Headers.

I get any of the following each time I open a new tab and search:

Google instant search only with no "Google Search" button

No Google instant search and a "Google Search" button

Google search as I type with results opening instantly and no "Google Search" button

Google Search.jpg

SSL checks out okay:

SSL1.jpg

With default settings Google Search works as normal.

This is a traffic capture from IE11 64bit with all default settings applied. (Reset to default)

It seems that Google is encrypting searches by default. If I type

Code:
google.com

here's what happens:

I am successfully able to search by doing as previously suggested, clicking google icon in upper left corner and entering search term, then hitting return.

Update: Never mind, this didn't work just now. Off to bing. :{

I am having the exact same issue using IE11 on two desktop computers. It seems to have just started within the last week. I thought it was my computer until I tried another one.

I use Google as my home page. I frequently have to close out IE11 and reopen it to get a Google search to work. But it's hit or miss. I can't believe Google (now known as Alphabet) can't fix this.

PS I just found this Google thread also reporting the problem:

Google probably uses a track search # and if they see a drop they will eventually notice
Not to mention if the issue is reported on Google help might even help more than waiting around until Google notices ;)
It's not that big a deal for me to deal with Google help forums :/

I have to confess that I almost never use IE but have just noticed that default search provider "Google" was not the most recent version.

I had a problem some time ago with Windows Update KB3033814 - see this:

http://www.sevenforums.com/browsers...being-added-ie11-post3064703.html#post3064703

Checking IE just now I get the old Google logo in the address bar:

358974d1431468079t-whats-blocking-google-search-being-added-ie11-google-internet-explorer.jpg

Updated to the latest version and now I get this:
Google - Internet Explorer.jpg

So Google Search has been updated. I can then turn off instant search and everything works including the Google search button.

Manage Add-ons.jpg

So check to see if KB3033814 is installed and remove if found. Reboot and update search provider.

Maybe you don't have the exact same issue but it's worth a check.

Okay more testing after the problem returned!

Solved (I think) like this:

For IE11 go to "manage add ons" and then "search providers" and make sure that you added Google Search from IE Add Ons Gallery.

On google home page click "Settings" and turn off instant search.

Search Settings - Internet Explorer 1.jpg

Configure IE not to delete browsing history on exit:

Search Settings - Internet Explorer 2.jpg

The google preferences cookie is retained and everything works including the "Google Search" button.

Downside: You need to run a third party cookie cleaner for clearing history and specify "cookies to keep"

Cookies CCleaner.jpg

Other browsers: Same principle applies regarding google search preferences settings and cookies.

OK THANKS CALLENDER..
I just went directly to Google Home Page and under Settings in the lower right corner I checked "Never Show Instant Results" (skipped all the intermediate steps just to try this one setting first) and the searches appear to now work. As I type in the Google search box, I still get predictive suggestions showing. What did I shut off by changing to this setting, and why would this just start happening out of the blue to numerous computers?

Is there a way to send Google a message to fix their foul-up?

Well beside dealing with google help = not really,
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/websearch

A simple workaround is change the url you use to open google search to this,
Then it should work without dealing with google :)
They pretty much have focused more with Chrome and wanting people to use the url search bar in Chrome.
Code:
https://www.google.com/
