Google Update

In task scheduler these appear:

Google Update Task Machine Core Ready Multiple triggers
Google Update Task machine UA After triggered repeat every 1 hour for duration of a day
Google Update Task Users S-1-5-21 etc Ready 11.45a.m. every day

The descption says:

Keeps your Google software up to date. If this task is disabled or stopped, your Google software will not be kept up to date, meaning security vulnerabilities that may arise cannot be fixed and features may not work. This task uninstalls itself when there is no Google software using it.

Now I wasn't asked permission for these update tasks
I have no real idea of what they are doing - and aside from Google Earth I'm not aware of any other google software.
I do not feel trust in the google company (and enjoy the satire on Scroogle Scraper Do check it if you don't know it)

Can anyone tell me how these got onto my machine and how important they are?

Generally I do not care for automatic tasks and as per the tutorial have removed most preferring to check for updates manually.

You probably did agree to them when you accepted the T&C for any Google product

Although I don't believe they're malicious I stop the Google updater from running on start-up on principle

You're probably right Nigel ... what you said prompted me to check start up and
sure enough they were ticked ...so I've unticked them.

I have them disabled in start up etc but still they were activated on every restart I do. So that prompted me to check scheduler and to my surprise even though I had stopped it from starting up, it did anyway and it said in scheduler on every start up. So I basically disabled it on principal as I check for updates on my own terms. It surprised me to see how many applications pop themselves on scheduled tasks. So I am kinda glad google update are sketchy because I would never have realised . Now when I am gaming nothing interrupts me and my system is smoother. I am the server too to my whole household which means my son and ex are always watching or listening to something from my spare 10 tb drives. Now I have disabled the difference is crazy. Google update and many others have a once activated check every hour policy. And that is where you see performance problems.


oh sorry I forgot the question lol go to start / all programs / accessories / system tools / task scheduler and there you will see all scheduled tasks all mine are now disabled as I check for updates myself.

You can also just type in search so Start button click into search programs and files then type task scheduler.

Hope this helps you oh resize the scheduler window if it is too small then double click each schedule to edit tasks or you can single click them and on the far right box you will see the disable button if that is what you want to do.

thx Magikill .... yes I agree ... check for updates manually instead of having those programs run all the time. Task scheduler is now empty and will remain that way.I've noticed that Google is very persistent so will check now and again and continue to remove it.
