GPO: delete user profile older than... do not work!

In our company we are using the following group policy: "delete user profile older than a specified number of days on system restart".

The specified number of days is set for 30 days.

Lately I noticed that the mention GPO do now work as I expected.

On, Properties for Computer >> Advanced system settings (on the left side) >> Settings for User Profiles (in the middle), the account is always deleted after the specified number of days in the group Policy (30day).

But on the C:\ drive, C:\Users the user account is still there. So if the same user, logs in to the computer, the user will have a profile in the following syntax: username.domain

I've been googling for 1week without any success. I ran into the following KB article of Microsoft: The "Modified time" file attribute of a registry hive file is updated when an application loads and then unloads the registry hive file without making any changes on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7 but If I want to install the MSU file, I do not succeed.

All clients have Windows 7 SP1. It was mentioned that the Microsoft patch on the KB article is implemented on the Service Pack 1 for Windows 7.

I have no ideas what to do.
Can anyone of you help me further?`

Is it that the policy isn't running/working, or is it that the date on the profiles isn't aging properly?

Hi,

No the GPO is working. Running RSOP.MSC do not prompt any error and it says that the policy takes effect.

So I see that some folders has been modified by a third program. Maybe this is the reason why the won't delete.
But I also have folders which have only Appdata within. (just Appdata without ntuser.dat or the files which are actually there. I see unrecommended files by windows so this is not view fault.)

Now I'm really perplexed. some folders were modified and some has just an appdata which were not been modified and is still there.

So I don't know where to look for a solution.

I'm also having this problem, the GPO to delete profiles older than x days is running, but it's leaving the users folder behind.

When I check these profile folders, the only thing that's consistent is they each have an appdata folder with subfolders. However the subfolders are not consistent. Sometimes it's just Local, others it's Local and LocalLow, and the subfolders of these are different, sometimes going into office, adobe, google, or java folders. No files exist at all, just these random left over folders.

We are seeing the same issues on a test lab in our school environment. The profiles in the registry seem to be deleting but many profile names with the appdata folder remain. Anyone have any ideas on how to get the c:\users\username folder to delete when running this group policy??

does anyone have Smart Notebook installed onto their machines? I was having an issue here untill i updated to v11, which seems to have fixed the situation. The touch input service seems like it was locking up and hanging on to all the other user profiles.

We do use Smart Notebook but it is not installed on any of the computers that we are having the profile issue with. We gave up on the group policy setting and are now using Delprof2 and running it as a scheduled task once a week. It's been working great so far.
