Hi. I've played GTA 3 and I find it a really awesome game, so I decided to try GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas.

First I tried VC. I tried it, and it said
"Unhandled Exception: c0000005 at address: 006f6330 GTA vice city" or something like that. I searched for about 30 minutes, did everything I could:
Compatibility
Administration
Restarting
Reinstalling
Disabling AV, Firewalls, etc

Nothing worked.

Then I tried SA, hoping it will work... Nope.
It had a black screen, then it changed the Color scheme to W7 Basic. I waited a while and it never worked.
Did the same things as above plus:
changing resolution
changing themes

I can still play GTA 3 though.

I believe someone over at GTAForums.com got it to work.

I HAVE GOT VICE CITY WORKING ON WINDOWS 7 WITH NO COMPATIBILITY MODES

If you are getting an "Unhandled Exception - C0000005 at 006F6330" error every time you try to run GTA, keep reading.

As you can see below I had a problem with Vice City, but I've *just* discovered how to make it work. The problem lies with Windows 7's DEP (Data Execution Prevention)

To fix it, do the following:
Delete .set file from your Documents\Vice City User Files folder
Open the Start menu, in the search box type "advanced system settings".
One result will appear, click it.
In the window that opens, click the Advanced tab, then the first Settings button
Go to the "Data Execution Prevention" tab, and click "Add..." to add an exception.
Browse to your gta-vc.exe and select it.
Now "OK" all the dialogs until they're closed.

I hope this fixes your problem.

I shall try it now, thanks.
Hope it solves it...
Waiting for SA. And maybe other VC suggestions in case it does not work.

No problem and you're welcome.

As you are new to the forum I thought you might like to know how to mark threads as solved as well as the uses of some of the other buttons.

To the top right of this post you will see 3 icons. An orange (+), a set of scales and a red and white warning triangle.

The orange (+) or blue (-) denotes whether a user is on or offline (orange = on, blue = off).

The scales are used to give rep points; click this button if someone has helped you significantly or solved your queries (only give this to posts that you think really deserve it).

The red and white warning triangle is used to denote either an abusive post OR to mark a thread as solved (just put solved in the box that comes up and the admins or moderators will mark it solved).

I'll mark this thread solved for you this time.

Thank you. After 2 days of searching online, and being told by every little punk under the sun that I was an idiot for not being able to do this, I find this answer. Simple, not condescending, and most important, it worked like a charm. It was so simple, if people would stop acting so superior, this would be a simple fix. Thank you so much.

DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION, PEOPLE!!!! It was so simple.............
