I am a bit confused by your answers, now. Yes, if you choose to "Search for and automatically update Driver Software" you will get that message. That is why the instructions in the second post say to "Browse" for the driver, what is sometimes referred to as "manually". You need to browse to the folder (the suggested location to extract the zip file is C:/Dell) where you unzipped the driver files and select the file ialmnt5.inf
That loads the driver only. Again, just as I did, you may also need to use the "Advanced Display Properties" to select the specific file again before it will work.

You do not want the Standard VGA driver.
You do not want the Dell driver.
You need to install the Intel 855GM Vista driver to have the better screen resolutions.

I do not know why you are having DirectX error messages. I did not have any issues with DirectX with my D505 Laptop. The driver worked fine with the version of DirectX that Windows 7 installed.

Cheers!

Reply to Robert_install the VGA

Hi Robert,

I downloaded the zip folder, copy and paste the file indicated by jpgundersen in a new folder inside the Dell folder , right click on my screen ... until bebooted my PC. After that I tried to change the screen resolution but parameters were remained unchanged!

The resolution cannot be change and it is 640 X 480.

I tried also to delate the former VGA but I have got the message ask a permession to windows trustedinstaller (not funny at all, becaused there is no way to change the security's parameters)

Thanks!

zoblazo;

Please go back to Post #2 of this thread and repeat the steps a second time. I have added a new step and screen shot based on the suggestion from the posted link there. Please let me know if the additional step works for you?

I would also suggest you create a new user on your laptop, one with administrator priviledges, and use the new Admin user to update your video driver.

Cheers!

Hello helpsme, and welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

The setting of 1024x768 @ 256 colors is only a temporary setting. Once the Intel video driver is installed and working properly, 32 bit colors should be available.

I agree it would be nice to know what Dangsu did to get the video driver installed. I can only guess he repeated the steps until the laptop got it right.

Cheers!

D505 graphics workaround

Hello. New to the forum today so forgive me if I transgress!

I've successfully run a D505 with Windows 7 (32 bit) and a resolution of 1024 x 768 by this method:-

Windows 7/Dell Latitude D505 graphics problem

This first section, which I got from a forum somewhere -lost count now) I found varies a bit, but the general

approach is fine..... The driver you need is Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller Driver

1) downloading latest drivers (v14.19.50) for XP from Intel's site and extracting them to a separate folder
2) booting W7 in the safe mode
3) Device Manager -> Video Adapter (VGA compatible) -> Properties
4) Driver -> Update driver -> Browse -> Let me pick -> Display adapters -> Have disk -> give path to \"win2000\"

folder of the extracted driver
5) After you get error about driver installation, in Device Manager click on \"Scan for new hardware\"
6) Boot (f8) your W7 in \"Disable driver signing enforcement\" mode

Test this works okay.

Now this bit I then experimented with and works like a dream.....

Assuming it does, download and install SetupReadyDriverPlus.exe (Citadel Industries - ReadyDriver Plus) which will automate the f8 bit for you (don't hit anything as it boots up -it will automatically make the selections for you), giving you a 1024 x 768 resolution every time.
