Solved Graphics Card overheated?

Hey everyone,
Been a long while since i've posted here. Life gets busy as you know.

Anyways,
I have been struggling with my laptop for quite some time now. I have a cyberpower PC custom laptop. My problem is the fans. They sound like a small jet engine. I can not take it out of my room, since the noise the fans produce are too loud for any library or coffee shop. Everyone will hate me. Here are the temperatures of my components.


My graphics card is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 running @ 77C
My Intel Core i7 is running between 47-49C
My Memory controllers are 8-9C

I have never messed with overclocking or anything of that nature. And i do not have any graphics issues. Is this card burning out and causing these fans to work so loudly?

I sounds literally like it's time to open up the rig and blow out the cooler and fan. Then invest in a laptop cooler or stand. Never run and laptop on your lap or a bed or blanket.

Hey linnemeyerhere,

I should blow it out. Always been nervous about opening up my laptop. I have done it before, but not on this expensive of a rig. Guess i should grow a pair and open it up haha. As for where i use it, I have a desk set up in my room and it never leaves the desk. I have it mounted on a cooling board with some fans underneath, but the fans actually work against the air flow current. The bottom of my laptop stays cool, since that is the air intake. The back of my laptop has slots on each side that are for airflow out. That is where the heat exits. It is never covered, and has plenty of room to breathe.

Yup it can use a good cleaning it isn't hard remove the shroud with a screw driver should be a big fat copper heat sink in the middle take out the dust bunnies and blow the card and fans

So I opened it up and there was dust galore in the fans. I blew everything out very well, and cleaned the cases openings as well. My temperatures changed but they changed differently than what i expected:

BEFORE CLEANING:
My graphics card is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 running @ 77C
My Intel Core i7 is running between 47-49C
My Memory controllers are 8-9C
Forgot to include hardware monitor
Forgot to include Hard drive

AFTER CLEANING:
My graphics card is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 running @ 64C
My Intel Core i7 is running @ 50C
My Memory controllers are 13-15C
My Hard drive is at 32C
My Hardware monitor is 53C

Do these seem around normal to you folk? Im not exactly a hardware expert here so input is much appreciated.

Hard to say what's normal but clean is clean and maybe the rig was throttling for heat before?

You said Mobility GPU meaning Laptop that should be pretty normal for a Laptop actually pretty good

By the way the memory controler probably heated up more since the GPU has a clear path to shoot air

Thanks guys! While my laptop is still quite loud, meaning louder than i would like i guess, it is a gaming laptop in the end and i guess it needs that much airflow to keep cool. Thanks for the tips on blowing it all out and what not!

Took the time to redo the thermal paste on my GPU and CPU chips, and now the computer is near silent, which is phenomenal considering this is a pretty hefty gaming laptop (though i don't use it for gaming). I cannot be happier that i finally got around to this!
