Just wanna ask if is it possible to pair my PC to my notebook and use the resources of my notebook my main reason for this is to convert videos (program used Proshow Producer)
i herd there is a software like this to pair two pc's using LAN and use resources please help :D

My Computer

OS
windows 7 ultimate
CPU
2.2ghz Intel dual core

Monitor(s) Displays
BenQ
So what you want to do is use your notebook and PC's resources together? That's not possible I'm afraid. Anyways, using a broadband cable would be way to slow to do this...

What are your current PC specs?

Yes, like this run a program (video editor ) in pc then connect my notebook to pc and use its resources as additional resources for my pc

PC= Intel E2200 core2duo 2.20 ghz
3Gb ram
512mb video card
250gb hdd

notebook
intel atom idk the number/model but its quad core and running at 1.50ghz
1gb ram
250gb hdd

i've found this software called Xoreax Grid engine but it wants to create an xml file but i dont know how they only gave me this http://www.xoreax.com/webhelp/pages/profile_xml_structure.htm

Ok its not possible, so don't bother. That Xoreax Grid thing looks fake-ish, just don't use it. Now lets see...

Your notebook is very bad. The Intel Atom is very slow and just no good for video encoding and the like. Also, 1GB of RAM is too little. Just forget using the notebook for video, its just not worth the trouble.

Your desktop... The CPU kind of sucks. The amount of RAM is ok I guess. What type of video card do you have though? Whats the model and manufacturer? Download and install Speccy Speccy - System Information - Free Download, it will tell you.

XGE most definitely isn't fake. It's been around since 2002 and does exactly what it claims.

To the OP: have you downloaded XGE and read any of the supporting documentation yet? Is your application compatible with XGE? Have you done any research on this technology, other than coming here and asking about it?

i agree its not fake

yes i downloaded it already and found it running between my pc and my notebook
i found it in their site its compatible
a little research only and found that i need to create an xml file and let XGE intercept my process to distribute it but dunno how to program an xml file though

Ok I'm going to shut up... I guess I don't know what I'm talking about. Enlighten me though, how is it possible to share resources between two computers via a cable? The cable I doubt is fast enough as PCI Express speed, so wouldn't it slow it?

To the OP: I recommend sending them an email and asking for some assistance. Distributed computing isn't something you can just jump into and start working with - you need to know exactly what you are doing and how to properly configure your software and hardware.

And what type of cable is used for the 2 computers to co-operate with each other?

That's quite slow compared to PCI Express speeds. I think you'd do much better by upgrading your desktop. Besides, the notebook ain't going to help you much, the Atom is pretty slow...

You really should take a look at the IncrediBuild user manual, and the rest of the website that I linked to earlier.

The beauty of distributed computing is taking advantage of multiple processors to spread out the workload. I don't know why you are talking about the PCIExpress bus, since it has nothing to do with what the OP was looking for. Sharing CPUs has nothing to do with the PCIExpress bus.

@noelian13 - No need to get upset or anything. I was just saying that if you wanted increased performance you should look towards upgrading your computer because sharing resources with the notebook wouldn't help much due to its poor for video editing.

@kegobeer - I mention PCI because its speeds are much faster than using a LAN cable to share resources. For example, adding a graphics card to be used via USB, it won't be very good compared to connecting it to a PCI port because USB is much slower than PCI. Ditto that to Ethernet.

Ok, now I think I understand how it works. One second though, does it also work with the GPU or only CPU? (Video encoding for example)

Edit: So the Grid computing is only good for compiling, encoding, or decoding things right? Isn't it slow to first send the project via LAN to clients, have them do the job, then send it back?

its okay :P i am earning money for it though (looking for a way to destroy my pc so that my parents will buy me another one ;) )

so far it uses all the resources available in your pc except gpu i guess

How much cash do you have? If you can get around 600-700 bucks, we can make you a great desktop.

Don't, they are really overpriced. Are you going to get a laptop or desktop though? And whats your budget?
