i've always had issues installing windows 7, the first time i used it i had this problem http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/35505-windows-7-installation-cannot-find-drivers.html i never fixed that problem.. but i dont know if i mentioned on that thread that i can install a clean install while Vista is running but cant do that option because i wanted to upgrade to 64bit to use my full 6 gigs.. i eventually gave up and bought a new hard drive (1 TerraByte!!! :D) but i still had the problem so i settled with vista 64bit.

i recently realized i could install windows 7 64bit on it while it was running, bypassing the boot from disc problem and so i have.. but once i put my driver discs in to install for my graphics card/other devices i noticed i couldnt use the disc drive anymore (windows7 cant locate it, including the device manager).. i got my old hard drive still connected and the drive works just fine on it..

i've spent hours googling fixes but none seem to work.. this page Windows 7 DVD Drive Not Working Problem Missing Disappeared Error Gone Not Found Not Recognized in x64 and x86 | Capitalhead.com

shows the main methods i've seen so far and none seem to fix the problem

i'm about to beat windows 7 and its install disc into oblivion Literally i'm so pissed.. again the disc drive model is GSA-H40N and its from LG i think.. LG electronics? i'm not sure.. and my computer model is GT5628 if i remember right.

Please help, just give me a hand here

I would disconnect all drives from your PC with Vista except the 1TB one and clean install/reformat Windows 7 on it. That should redetect everything that needs redetecting.

lol not until i get more opinions i dont trust someone with only 15 posts and joined a day or two ago. :P not like having two hard drives connected should effect anything.. never has when installing another OS in the past

Anyone on this forum will tell you that in place upgrading always has problems that either come out straight after the upgrade or when drivers stop working a week later.

really? because when i first attempted to upgrade i only had 1 hard drive and it gave the error then.. but to be on the safe side i'll disconnect my old hard drive and boot from the disc, if i still have the same problem i'll let you know. (using my new hard drive)

There isn't any driver. Is this connected via IDE or SATA? If IDE, are the jumpers set correctly for master/slave? Found this thread for Vista:

DRIVER NEEDED: Hewlett Packard (HP) gsa-h40n (Windows Vista) [IDE] - DriverGuide Support Forums

wow.. you know i've actually read that and you know what? as my previous post says, windows mentions not having its required cd/dvd driver and asks me to insert a disk or locate it on the hard drive.. so i ask you again, where can i find it? i understand it doesnt need one but my guess is because windows comes pre-installed with it.. why else would all methods online not work after been done correctly AND the disk drive works fine on vista and anything lower?

ALSO! i realized on LG's Website they do not list it in their Disk Drive Models and actually skip over it.. i guess they dont support it anymore and so windows 7 doesnt have a driver for it thus explaining why i'm having trouble with it, what do you think?

I've never heard of a drive needing a driver. They all basically work the same and Windows recognized it like that. Is this a desktop/5.25in drive? Try switching it out.

well then what the hell could it be? it works fine on vista.. also it is a desktop (dont know the drive size) and i do plan to switch it out.

would it be a problem if the drive isnt from this computer? lol..
