GTX 660 lag in games on cold boot

Hello once again,
Ever since I bought my GIGABYTE GTX 660 I have been having problems with it. As of now, there is only one big issue with it. Whenever I boot up my computer, performance is poor. I'm talking 30-40 FPS in a game like MW2, while 90 is normal. The only way I can manage to fix this, is by rebooting. And I mean actually clicking the "reboot" button in windows. Just shutting down and then powering on again straight away does not help at all.

I have actually upgraded my PSU and memory. Problem occurred before and after system changes. I was thinking about RMA'ing this SOB, but first I'd try it in my dads computer. The card worked absolutely fine without any sort of inconsistent performance on benchmark.
I have also done a full system reinstall quite a while ago, but the problem persisted.
Only thing I can think of now is a BIOS update, but I don't want to if I don't have to. If I will update I will let you know if it helped.

Furmark 1280x720, no AA:
Cold - 49 FPS
Warm - 51 FPS

Unigine Heaven 4.0, Ultra Quality, Extreme tess, 8x AA:
Cold - 23.0 FPS
Warm 26.8 FPS

Mate probably too obvious but have you tried downloading the latest driver this card??

A SFC and chkdsk would not go amiss either in my mind anyway but the choice is yours.

Yes, I am running the latest 326.80 nVidia Driver. Should I try the one on GIGABYTE's website? It seems kinda outdated to me. SFC and disk check both fixed some files but not my problem.
It's unfortunate but my problem just doesn't want to be fixed

Oh, and the temps pretty much never exceed 60°C

Hmm the NVidia one should be the driver - I run Asus NVidia cards via theNVidia drivers so I don't think it is the problem.

The BIOS I am not really sure - I suppose you have redone the chipset updatefor that board?
MSI Global ? Motherboard - P55M-GD45 64 the BIOS update is there too but try the chipset driver first I personally don't like messing with the BIOS unless I know it is something to do with it.

Now you recently upgraded the RAM too you could try a memtest I suppose - itpossibly could be the stick/s it might be the slots hence the board are faulty.
This is a lengthy process though and you need to make a bootable disk and let it run for at least 8 passes unless you start to get errors straight away.

I did a full reinstall to 320.49 with driver sweeper and it didn't help unfortunately.

Also, I got the idea to reset my BIOS settings. I chose to reset to the optimized settings and on reboot it decided to install a bunch of drivers. Kinda strange imo. Pic below shows all the drivers it installed.
"Voltooid, opnieuw opstarten vereist" means: "completed, restart required".

This is starting to become the most painful and long-stretching PC program I ever had... :drool:

So it turned out my BIOS was already up to date and my chipset drivers are too, so that didn't help. Only thing I can think of now is doing ANOTHER clean install, which I will probably do when I have time.
I did however find a way to speed up the process of booting, rebooting every time I want to use my computer. The first boot I simply go to BIOS and save and exit, so it will go through post agiain. This way performance IS up to scratch without having to reboot.
I don't consider this problem to be solved, though! If you have any suggestions please let me know!

I noticed the drivers on the GIGABYTE website were pretty old (310.90) so I'm guessing I shouldn't use them. I have always used drivers from the GeForce website. I used the sweeper just to be sure that it was a clean install. I also noticed some BIOS updates from the GIGABYTE website. What exactly are they as opposed to regular MSI drivers and should I give them a try?

NO mate the Gigabyte BIOS I suspect you may have clicked on the download type button and saw that there. The only one you must use is the board manufacturers (MSI) BIOS download.

As a matter of course I am very wary of updating the BIOS unless I am 100% sure it is safe and that I have a back up copy of what there is already in case the BIOS can be rewritten back.

The driver from NVidia is the one to use in that instance and Boozad has quoted it already.

The only other thing I can think of to do is try it again on the other machine if it still works ok then maybe there is something wrong with the slot it sits in your machine.

You could try cleaning it by getting small strip of old credit card (about 1/2 inch wide with the corners nipped off) cut a small piece of lint free cloth over the end of it. Moisten it with only just enough iso alcohol or similar and gently drag the strip along the slot to clean the contacts.
See pic bit rough but you will get the idea the cloth should be long enough for you to keep a tight grip on it up the length of that strip. Sounds a bit crude but works
