Hello forum!

*WARNING: Wall of text Incoming*

As you may have guessed, i have a problem with my Unlocked GTX 465/470
When i got the card i unlocked it to a GTX 470, So i did not really use it while it was a 465 so i do not know if this is a problem with the unlock or the card.

This happens Randomly i may just be playing a game or browsing the internet, but it will randomly reduce the fan speeds down to 82RPM, which when gaming gets the card to 110*c, once it gets there ONLY that card will shut off, which means my left monitor which is on my 9800GT still works and i can move the mouse around. That is how i can see the temperature :geek:

I have tried this with 2 Different BIOS' a Generic NVIDIA GTX 470 one and an EVGA GTX 470 Super overclock one, both with the Same Problem.

I have Just Emailed Leadtek asking if they will send be a copy of the Original GTX 465 Bios, Whether or not they will give it to me is a different Question :sleepy: If anyone out there has a copy of the Bios Could you please upload it and Link me to it. I would Greatly Appreciate it. The reason i need a copy is i forgot to back it up  Which means i cant RMA it. And that i what i think i may have to do.

So far i have tried different fan control software (Nvidia Performance, MSI Afterburner, and EVGA Precision) I have also Set a Static fan speed of 100% and it still happens. Any Help would be Greatly Appreciated. :D

TLDR: I need a new GPU BIOS!!

Thanks,
Braydon

Have you tried with just the fan at stock settings? Without using any programs like Precision, Afterburner etc?

Just got this form Leadtek:
Dear Sir
Please provide us the warranty number we added on your VGA card like "Lxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" for reference. We also would like to know why you need a BIOS copy for your GTX465.
The information we require from you as above may be helpful to make our product manager to release the BIOS image to you.

What should i say?

Unfortuantely if it has overheated a number of times it may be damaged now. Even moderate heating may now be causing a chip to lift from the PCB. Todays leadless solder is EXTREMELY intolerant to stress caused by heating and cooling cycles. Cracked solder pads are very common. It seems to be the #1 cause of video card failure over the last few years.

If the card is still under warrenty I'd have it replaced ASAP.

Well at stock the fan stays at 40% until it reaches around 70c then it will start to up the fan. The stock fan profile favours audibility over keeping your card cool.

There was a specific nvidia driver that has this or a similar problem with turning the fan off. But that's was fixed 3 months ago or so.

Just in case, make sure your using the latest drivers. But the fan problem may just be another reason to RMA the card ASAP :)

Dear Sir

We add a BIOS image for our GTX465 in this mail. You can try to run BIOS flash to your VGA card.

@ There is no newer BIOS image released to our GTX465, so you can try this one we send you for comparison.

If it can not solve the issue you are facing after you tried the BIOS image we send you, we recommend you have to request RMA service for your VGA card.

@ The utility “nvflash” needs to be run under the pure DOS mode for giving your GTX465 card a BIOS flash.

:D:D

Done..
Well, lets just say, i'm uncertain...... HWmonitor is showing 82RPM as the minimum speed so far... i have MSI Afterburner on Manual Fan Control where i have set it to go from 70% fan speed if over 40*C, to go to 100% as soon as it hits 70*C... will go play some games to test it, will report back...

Well.....
