H100 Installation

I can't get my H100 Corsair CPU cooler installed. I have the right screws but the if I use the screws mentioned in the manual guide, the cooler won't fit ontop of the screws because one side is too thick. If I use the thinner part of the screw it won't touch the CPU. I've been stuck on this for an hour.

Can I see a picture of what you are up against? I have 4 fan p/p set up to the top of my case and I'll have a better idea with a picture of the case and what your facing. Are you going to run the two stock or additional fans and is it intake or exhausting through the top?

It's the back plate. I can't get it on. The manual states to use the LGA 2011 screws, this screw has a short end and a long end. The short part of the screw won't allow the CPU cooler to fit snug on the CPU, if I use the longer part of the screw the back plate won't work.

I'm not going to install the back plate that came with H100, I'm going to use the one on the motherboard.

Intel. The back plate that came with the 100 won't fit, using the proper screws any way I try, it won't work. It works perfectly using the back plate already installed on the motherboard.

I hope there won't be any short-circuit or anything !

This is where spec's would be helpful. Did you check, does your cpu fall into this cat?

I tried all the screws, for LGA 2011. The backplate that is pre-installed that comes with the motherboard works, if I try to install the backplate that comes with H100, no screws work. I spent (2) hours trying, literally, time goes fast

So removing the oem backplate and installing the Corsair doesn't work. But leaving the oem backplate and it does. Then use the oem back place and see if you can make it work. All you are trying to do is get a nice even pressure on the pump down to the cpu....as you understand. Not sure why you are having issues. Get up walk outside, take a breath and then sit back down and sort it out and or your options.

I'm running out to do some quick shopping. If you need a custom length bolt to make this work with the oem plate then take the bolts that work to the hardware store and get longer or shorter ones. Tip: if you buy two nuts that go with the bolts, thread them on and have to cut down the bolt to length then when you back the nuts off after cutting with a hack saw then the nuts re-thread the ends.

I'll use the OEM backplate. On this video he removed the OEM backplate, how do you remove the OEM backplate it is in the motherboard very secure.

if you look very close at the H 100 back plate, you will notice 2 of the sides are cut out to go around the 2 screws from the intel socket plate. Line those up and it will fit perfect. When you screw the 4 screws in from the motherboard side, they will not fit tight. That is normal. The mounting screws from the pump will make it fit tight.

It doesn't line up. The backplate that comes with the H100 doesn't fit on socket 2011, the OEM one works but this one that comes with is pointless.

he didn't uninstall the back plate. Plus, the video was installing it on a socket 1366 notan 1155 or 2011.

In this thread he used the OEM backplate. It appears since my motherboard has a backplate there is no concern, the backplate that comes with the H100 is merely a option for those on other sockets or without backplates.

Remove the OEM back plate. Of course it comes off but it may have some double face tape on it to help it stick. These back plates come off. If I were you I'd use the Corsair provided plate and mounting screws. This is were pictures and spec's and some clarity in describing what you were doing would have helped. I was always assuming you had the Corsair plate on the mobo and it was just the screws.

What have you decided to do?

I've gone ahead and used the OEM. It's too risky to take off the OEM backplate. Struggling, then it causes a ripple effect of another problem.

I hope so. I realized one thing, the manual for the H100 is not socket specific, it just says Intel or AMD. If your board is gracious, and you have a proper back plate it will make life a little easier, if your board doesn't have a back plate then fortunately the H100 supplies this. I could have taken off the OEM backplate, but none the less as long as as it works, and works well

Should the H100 fans be blowing on the CPU or the opposite direction ? I'm in a dispute / argument with someone who thinks I'm wrong, wrong, wrong with the H100 fans blowing on the CPU.
