Halo: Combat Evolved - Crashes

So I installed it from my original copy that was just lying around, got it updated to the latest version 1.0.9, tried to run it, and it crashes. The initial "Halo" screen will come up, and then go back to my desktop a second or two later. I've tried several compatibility settings, but that didn't work.

Any ideas?

Very nice guide! All my drivers are updated, UAC disabled, all of that stuff.

I'll experiment with a few other things. Maybe a good old restart will fix it.

What about DirectX? Did you update it?
