For some reason, after upgrading my Windows XP computer to Windows 7, my C: hard drive maximum capacity has reduced 50%. I do not know what has happened because a computer professional had done it for me. I need more space on this computer badly.

In the first place, it is impossible to upgrade Xp to Windows 7, dunno what did your professional do.

If caperjack's suggestion solves your problem, then fine otherwise a clean install of Windows is strongly recommended. Please note that you'll loose everything on your Windows drive (so make backup first) along with your installed programs, though you can easily install them again by obtaining their setups. You can follow this guide: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html

1. What was your original hard drive capacity?

2. Post a screenshot of the drive in Disk Management. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/274797-disk-management-post-screen-capture-image.html

3. If you have the legally licensed Windows 7, you may perhaps do a clean install if necessary. Otherwise not.

Let us have the answers.
1.I forgot but I know it is more than I have now. And when I searched for the specs of this computer online it said it should have a 160-750GB hard drive.

2.(attached)

3.What do you mean by otherwise not?

He meant you should only install Windows if you have paid for it and not using an illegal copy.

XP to w7 has no upgrade path, but one can certainly upgrade from XP to w7. One buys w7 and installs it.

OK, from the Disk Management, I see your drive as a 160GB hard drive.

You can check the Hard disk Model in Device Manager > Disk drives or in its Properties there. Google search that model number to get the manufacturer and the drive capacity or you can use a program like Speccy Speccy - System Information - Free Download which will list the model number and capacity.

Since some people advised you a clean install, I queried whether you have a valid licence key which will be required to activate Windows. That's about all.:) ( If your professional had not given you a valid media and licence key with which he installed and activated your Windows 7, get it from him.)

1. If your originals are 320GB, it means your professionals help you to make 2 partitions which is 160GB each and another partition cannot be displayed for some reason.

2. you have a bad memory.

Hi Computer0304,

Can you please post the model no. of your DELL computer?

I smell something suspicious after having a second look at your first screenshot at post #1.

The computer information shows "RAID Support - RAID 1 (Mirroring)"

Did it come with two HDDs and could it be that your professional had removed one? !!!!!!!!

I only hope I am not overreacting. :D

Good also to know that you have a legal version of Windows. That gives you the freedom to reinstall when and and if you want to. ( If it was a pirated version you would have got stuck.)
