Why am I getting such slow speeds. I made a second partition on my main drive and looking to transfer my DATA there, because its getting larger than I expected.

Should it be this slow when transfer files within the same disk just one partition to another.

Drive info: Seagate 1TB 7200.11

Data transfers between two partitions on the same drive will be a slower than transfering data between physically different drives.

This is a side effect of having the read/write heads having to read data, move to another part of the disk to perform the write, then move back again to read more data, and so on.

If transferring data between physically different drives, the drives heads can remain in the relative same position while the other drive performs a write operation. The heads will not need to move far (if at all) in order to continue reading data.

I hope I've explained it good enough for you. But to summarise: Multiple partitions on the same drive cause read/writes heads to do more work...
