What is the best hard drive diagnostics software? I already have WD Drive Uttilities but it is useless for my internal drive which is a Seagate. (I have a WD Passport too) I am thinking about HDTune. I am not getting CrystalDiskMark because it has the OpenCandy virus. It has to be one that does not interfere with antivirus. The reason I want one is because I want to continuously diagnose my 5 year old hard drive.

I use HD Sentinal. It has saved my neck at least three times and twice in the last month warning about impending hard drive failure (Thanks Seagate). I downloaded it about 3 weeks ago and find it invaluable.

I used Seatools in the past and found it totally useless.
I ran it and it said "healthy" but Acronis Drive Monitor warned me of impending failure.

Three days later, the hdd (Seagate) failed - luckily I had a full backup.

Download disk imaging utilities, data backup and recovery tools, HDD managers and multibooting software for home PCs

Hdsentinel and Acronis Drive Monitor are about the only ones I currently use on a consistent basis.

HDTune? I heard that someone once got a virus from getting hdsentinal from cnet.

It is not a virus- just addition of a lot of crap.
To avoid it, check "custom" and uncheck all the crap that they want to give you - Changing home page, adding toolbars, etc.

Acronis drive Monitor and Hdsentinel should do you fine.

Hdsentinel sits on your desktop (by the clock) and monitors temps constantly,

You might have thought about CrystalDiskInfo instead which is monitoring hard drives.

If you take the Portable Edition (Zip) you'll not get any ads in it.

Once extracted you can launch DiskInfo.exe direct from the folder of the CrystalDiskInfo 5.6.2.

CrystalDiskInfo is quite handy and simple to set "function" (i almost leave all at default), is also running smooth with no fuss in the background. You can use it to monitor your drives for 24/48 hours.
