Solved Hard Drives not showing up at installation after Hackintosh attempt

I tried a hackintosh attempt today on a friends Acer 4738 laptop. It didn't work and at the end I had to format the hard drives using the Mac Lion Installers Disk utility as Windows wasn't booting up and a Clean Installation of 7 was the only way out.

So using Disk Utility, I formatted with the MSDos file system and then when I tried installing Windows from a DVD the drives wouldn't show up. So I reformatted the hard drive with NTFS file system using Hirens Bootable Disk , still the drives aren't showing up at the installation.

Note - Hard drives show up in BIOS and also on the hirens bootable disk. Also tried toggling between AHCI abd Sata mode, didnt help.

Where did you get Win7? If you burned the DVD yourself I'd confirm the ISO and burn another DVD or write to flash stick using the tool using the official ISO and tool in this tutorial to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If that fails then wipe the HD using Diskpart Clean Command from the Win7 DVD Command Line accessing DISKPART At PC Startup. Then create and format your install partition during install, or let the installer do it for you.

Thanks for the help, it worked! I did the Diskpart "Clean" command since the complete HDD was formatted already using the Hirens BootCD, there was nothing to loose.

More then likely the drive was set to GUID as the partition Map from trying to install OS X.
Even though Windows 7 is supposed to work OK with GUID partitionmap I have found that it really doesn't.

Not sure on drives above the 2TB mark but on all drives I have ever moved from a Mac to a PC that was formatted with the GUID partition mapping, either internal or external, Windows always has a problem reading them.

You must first partition and format the drive in a OS X environment MSDOS with a Master Boot Record partition mapping.
