Last time i checked i had plenty of GBs free on my C:\ drive. today i got a low drive space message and i only had 180MB left. Something odd is happening in windows because i haven't installed anything lately.

Can anyone recommend a good place, or some programs, to start hunting for where the space is going?

Also i found a odd sized folder. (4.6GB)

C:\Users\Xisuma\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player

Ive also been having trouble with WMP12 > http://www.sevenforums.com/music-pictures-video/98481-wmp12-issues.html

thanks for your time

If you're not interested in saving all of your System Restore points. You could free up space there. It will save your most recent save point though.

Type "Disk Cleanup" into Windows Search. Hit Enter.

Click on the Advanced Options. Select clean up System Restore Points. Then click OK. It may take a moment to complete.

You should be able to gain a few GB's by doing this.

Do the following:

1. Run WinDirStat. That will tell you exactly what's on your disk - except for the shadowstorage
2. Run an elevated Command Prompt with the command vssadmin list shadowtorage. That will show how much space was allocated for restore points (shadows)

Come back with the results and we'll see what we can do about it. Snips of the left top pane of WinDirStat and the cmd window will help.

How do you have your partitions set up? I see that you have several hard drives. Not sure which one is your main system drive and how you have it partitioned.

That is very strange. It never crashed on me and I also have never heard of anybody else having that problem. Maybe you have a more serious problem in your system. Where can we start to look? For starters, have a peek at the event viewer.
PS: I also recommend to use imaging. Here is one option.

I have no idea how this happened. But another 3GB from my C drive has disappeared. I haven't done anything on that drive so i have no idea why or how it was freed up

I done a scan using that program and i can see that system files has dropped from 6.1GB to 2.8GB. once again i have no idea why

That could have been temporary files that were thrown out by a schedulted defrag. If you run the command schtasks in an elevated cmd, you can check when your defrag is scheduled. You can also check it when you type defrag into the start/search and hit Enter.
I again suggest you run WinDirStat from time to time. That gives you the best track record of what is going on with the disk/partition.
