Hello, I have no problem hardsubbing subtitles. I have an avi video with two softsub files, one is .idx and another .sub. The subtitles are in english and chinese. When I use HCMPC to play, the subtitle is in chinese so i had to change the subtitle in english. Any idea how to change the subtitle to english and hardsub it into the video? thanks (:

There is a very simple solution for soft subs:
I usually simply delete the "wrong language" subs.
Just temoprarily rename one of them and watch the clip to see, what language is left and go from there.

To incorporate the soft sub into the movie you'll need to basically re encode the movie. there are many programs capable of doing that depending on movie format and your sub format. for some formats even VirtualDub can do it. But personally I don't do it because re encoding usually means degraded quality.

Have a look here:

The .srt file already has 2 languages in it. Is there any way to upgrade the quality of the movie after hardsub?

Can I ask one more question? Why can't VirtualDub hardsub or even open .wmv files? I can't even open .wmv files using VirtualDub. Sometimes there are also some .avi files that says wrong header or something like that when i tried opening them in VirtualDub.

you can't upgrade the quality of any movie by re-encoding it.
for wmv try this: WMV plugin for VirtualDub
And there will always be bad encoded AVIs. That's not VDs fault.
But you can try VirtualDubMod (google it) if you're not happy with VD
