Tomorrow I am going to buy a new rig and decided to get this a Intel core i7 configuration.

So here is the specification:

Intel core i7 920
Kingston 4GB DDR3 Ram
Asus M4A77TD PRO AMD 770/SB710 motherboard
or
MSI x58 pro E motherboard

ATI 4650 1GB graphics card
or
NVDIA geforce 9500 GT

PSU 600 watt

So what do you guys think about this configuration???:D

Mate, you've got your configuration all messed up. The Intel processor needs an LGA1366 based motherboard while the ones you've listed are actually for AMD processors. All i7 based motherboards need DDR3 RAM and not the outdated DDR2 that you've listed. Plus, to take full advantage of the 1366 platform, you need to go for triple channel RAM (3GB, 6GB or 12GB). If you're going with two sets of 2GB RAM, you might as well move to the cheaper Lynnfield LGA1156 platform.

The video cards you've listed are seriously underpowered compared to the processor. The GPU is going to be a major bottleneck in games. Last time I checked, there's very little difference in the price of a HD4650 and something a little more mainstream, like a HD4850 or HD4770.

For the configuration you've listed, a name branded (Corsair, Seasonic, OCZ etc., not that Chinese crap) 600W SMPS is overkill. Unless you're going to overclock to over 4Ghz or plan on adding another graphics card in the future, something like a Corsair VX550 should be just fine.

ya I just noticed that GIGABYTE GA-MA 790XT-UD4P AMD 79X CROSSFIRE CHIPSET are for Amd.
Actually it would be MSI x58 pro E.

What happened was that I asked a shop to send me an estimate of the costs for both Intel Core i7 and Amd phenom II X4 configuration via email.

After getting the estimate cost I decided to go for core I7

While writing this thread I copy pasted those from the email without noticing.
Thanks for pointing that out.
And at this moment I cannot afford GTS or GTX series GFX card.

+1....;)

i dont think there's anything to add to that, except to reiterate the point about the GPU, i'd never dream of building an i7 rig & offending it by paring it up with a 9500GT

even if you dont game i'd certainly look at different cards....

I think a 9800 gt would be a bottle neck point with and i7 as far as preformance is concerned. Also noticing your location, I also understand that not everything is avalible to you and certianly not at US pricing.

Dude I dont like using used parts for my computer....
What about the connector cables, cabinet, monitor and other stuff? Are you buying those new as well?

Anyways, it's your call. A "used" HD48xx or GTX2xx will beat the stuffing out of any new 9500/9800 card anyday.

Why on earth did you purchase a server class board?!? What was wrong with a consumer X58 based motherboard? With that board, you won't be able to play around with any settings in the BIOS.

That 250GB HDD is going to fill up faster than you can imagine.

P.S.: I hope you bought the D0 stepping.

Because in India we dont get a lot of options to chose from. As all the major branded computer hardware parts is imported from china.

There were only three to four boards available and two of them was for i5.And I was surprised when I found out that none of the intel core i family chips were not available except the i7 920.

And in India costs are higher for computer parts than compared to US.

Sorry, but I don't believe that. Perhaps I'm not aware of the market as much as you are, but I've lived in India long enough to figure out the price differential between your market, here (UAE) and other places like the USA or Blighty.
Case in point - the MSI X58 Pro is available in India for less than what you probably paid for that Intel board.

Anyhow, I'm not here to stir up a debate and you've made your purchase anyways. Be sure to post your system scores in the WEI thread. I'm curious to know if a workstation board has any enhancements that allow it to push scores further up.

Err.. the MSI X58 Pro cannot support the i5 and other Lynnfield processors since it's an X58 board and not P55. This is the board I'm talking about and it supports the i7 920 perfectly and costs about Rupees 11,000 in India right now.

The i5 750 is already available in major markets like New Delhi and Bombay for about Rupees 10,000 right now. :)

Dude actually what happened was that at first I purchase this board only. At the time of assembling, i7 920 wont fit into the socket. So I took it back, the salesman called the MIS guys and they told that there was a problem with the board all the lot those were sent contains another board that does not support i7 920 but packaging was of MSI X58 Pro. So I had no option but to go with this one.
It cost RS 10300 over here and I bought Intel board for RS 10920 including taxes.

But I7 950 is not available in (kolkata)West bengal not even in Chandni Market(the biggest market for computer and electronics parts in West bengal)...........
