Ok so I upgraded an old Dell because it had a bulletproof case and I can't throw anything away. It has two WD hdd's. One is an WD Green 1 TB sata and the other is a WD Blue 320GB. The smaller one ran for a couple years non stop but the 1 TB was the guts of a Clickfree backup. I formatted both and put 7 starter on them, yeah I know but it was free. Anyway I have puters running out my ears, so question. What would I want with a home server and could it run with win 7 starter or do I need to install Linux? I have my websites at Go Daddy but if I could host them myself that would be cool. Thoughts or suggestions would be helpful.

To host a webserver you need a high bandwidth internet which is rare as its what you see as upload which is normally very bad. Then you need linux or widows webserver it has to be patched uptodate as it may be scanned a lot for vunrabilities and anyone getting into the server may get onto other pc as well.

Its frought with danger and not a good ideawhats your upload speed?
