Have to keep rebuilding my indexing - Search stops working

Don't manually defrag if you are using an SSD.

Modern defraggers are supposed to recognise SSDs and not auto-defrag them, but I'm not sure that they stop manual defrags.

Anak - what you suggested might be spot on WRT defragging. I would also turn that "feature" off in Bitdefender.

I agree regarding the SSD, by it's nature, SSD is similar to RAM or USB in that there is no platter and defragmentation is not an issue. Defragging will not accelerate your read/write times, it will only add increased wear/tear on drive and shorten it's life. Win7, by default, recognizes SSDs and turns off auto-defrag. BitDefender does indeed provide defragmentation, BitDefender defray utility, however, from perusing the hyperlinked article, it appears to be option or user defined. BitDefender should recognize the SSD and not auto-defrag.

I agree with Anak's statement at the conclusion of his Post #40, that additional comments are welcome, two or more minds working on resolution of an issue is usually more productive than one. I always appreciate another's expertise and experience.

Regarding BitDefender not working, if you go to Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, and click BitDefender, most likely you will be provided options to Repair, Modify, or Uninstall. Quite a few programs provide this feature.

Thanks to Jo, Snick, and Anak for all your suggestions.

Turns out I was wrong about Bitdefender doing the defrag. It seems my version doesn't have that option available. When I checked the Windows defrag, it showed that it is scheduled to run weekly. But I ran it again just in case and then rebuilt the index. Today the search is working fine :D

I couldn't uninstall Bitdefender the normal way and had to download a special uninstaller from Bitdefender, but I finally got it uninstalled and re-installed

Thought I'd check in as I didn't hear of anything since lehnerus's post 3days ago and saw the added comments, I don't know if the notification system went south or not, I hope I don't jinx lindalo. :zip:

I suppose I should of mentioned SSD's but didn't because I didn't see any in her specs, thanks everyone for the coverage.

The best way to uninstall an AV is by using its proprietary uninstaller as there can be files that the Windows installer could miss; I'm glad it worked out okay for you Linda.
