Decided to restore my system with a disk image. the software used to restore was macrium reflect this image was created April last year.

now lve been trying to run windows update, but it seems to constantly be checking for updates.

l did notice one pending update which l couldnt flush so l uninstalled it (forget its ID), l have reset update components, lve also run a sfc file check which has fixed issues and lm currently trying to install "Windows6.1-KB3050265-x64" (as my installation is from april last year l thought it worth a try as it was a newer update component).

however its been checking for the last 10mins lve had win update running for longer before a reboot.. l thought creating a restore image would be much quicker.. only issue l have now is my DVD drive doesnt seem to work so lm stuck using the restore image as the only means of installation.

l will also note that svchost is using allot more ram than before while running the above update or when running windows update.. over a gig by my estimate.. plus the stand along installer lm running is hardly using any cpu/nor did the trusted installer after the first min of starting the scan for updates CPU wise its using little more than 25/30% while either running the update or the above mentioned file to update the update components.

Hi Timeless,

For the momment can you set your updates to never.

and run the following tools
1
Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [October 2014] from Official Microsoft Download Center
2
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=52012
3
and then sfc /scannow again, but post the report using these instructions

  1. Right-click and on the CBS folder and select Copy.
  2. Minimise all open windows and right-click on your Desktop, then select Paste.
  3. Right-click on the CBS folder on your Desktop and select Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  4. A file, CBS.zip should appear on your Desktop.
As this is a custom build do you still have the OS disc?
