Having trouble moving/copying files from desktop to HDD lately.

I don't know what it is, but I've been having troubles copying files from my desktop to my media HDD.

I've been getting errors such as the one I attached.

Also transfers are SUPER slow - I have 8g of ram, it should not take 10-20 minutes to move a few hundred MB's over to my media HDD.

What can I look into why this is so slow & even giving me error problems period?

The Media HDD is an external USB drive? Try running chkdsk /r against it, see if there are file system problems. If not perhaps there is a hardware problem.

Check the hard drive with the manufacturer's diagnostic tools.

No it's an internal one, that I believe is a WD, should I run the same tests? Is there a program that is default in windows to check it with?

Run the hard drive diagnostic first to see if there are any physical problems with the drive. The HD diag will be a .iso file that you use to create a bootable CD from.

If okay, then Click on Start then Run, type chkdsk x: /r and press Enter.

You may see a message
The type of the file system is NTFS.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Chkdsk may run if this volume is dismounted first.
ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID.
Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (Y/N)
Type y and press Enter.

Shutdown and reboot. Chkdsk will start. It can take an hour or more to run depending on the size of your hard drive.

Be patient and let it complete undisturbed.
