Hi

I recently did a clean install of W7 Professional. I installed W7 first on the SSD. Once the operating system was running I then proceeded to add the internal HDD (500G Seagate). Unfortunately the system just does not seem to recognise the HDD.

Device Manager:
In Device Manager->Disk Drives:
Drive 1: W7 sits on my 64G SSD and has the location 1 (1).
Drive 2: The 2nd drive is an internal 500G HD that has the location 0 (0). The drop down box of Device Usage shows: "Use this device (enable)"

Disk Management
I went to the Disk Management but:
a) only the Disk 1 is showing
b) it is does not appear to be seeing the 2nd disk

Computer Management
I went into Computer Management and tried to enable the Disk. Unfortunately it has come up with "The request could ot be performed because of an I/O device error"

The HD is an intertnal HD with Sata connectors.

1) I changed the Sata ports but still no difference
2) Windows says the drivers have loaded correctly and the device can be used
3) I ran the Trouble Shooter but no issues were found.
4)The same issues as above are occurring. Please see images below:

Low Level Format
Additionally I have tried to run a low level format. The software picked up both drive but when I went to format the drive i get the error below (see attachment)

Power
Finally I re-connected the the power and I could definitely hear the drive start up so I am cure there is power in the drive.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Download and run Seatools in DOS mode from CD and see what this brings up! Sounds like a DOA HDD!! The issue isnt with it being recognised as it clearly is in device manager but it being written to hence the I/O error!

Sorry I should have mentioned that I had already run Seatools but not in DOS mode. It could not pick up the drive.

I think it is time to throw away the HD and get a new one :(

Run it in DOS mode! It will give you a better description of whats happening! Have you tried different cables to rule out a faulty SATA cable? Highly unlikely but worth a shot!
