HDD failed no recovery how to set up new hdd

My hard disk has failed to boot. I have tried copying my data over using the guide however could not save all of it due to errors.

I've bought a new hdd and I'd like to get that running. Problem is I don't have a recovery disk and I have contacted support at Asus who do not do recovery disks for Windows 7

How can I get this running? Can I clone part of the drive asy new hdd is much smaller in size

Thanks for your reply. I have worked through that guide and some others, have used the repair tools, system repair x3, command prompt to checkdisk x5 etc. As my harddrive is bad, I have purchased a new one but need OS running on this.

Will check the recovery method - will this still boot with a bad hdd?

Hi,
Well that's the first process to see if you can access the drive at all
First action should be to recover only your personal files not programs.... yet which I doubt can be recovered unless you attempt to install Linux along side the windows install and Linux might be able to correct the boot issues
But if the hdd is dead or dying ?

So be prepared with an external hdd or flash drive to transfer your personal files you may only have one opportunity to do so

I've been able to boot Linux mint however cannot access my OS drove it States the following

Unable to mount location
Adding read ACL for uid 999 to /media/mint failed operations not supported

Any advise on this?

How big was the flash drive you installed Linux on ?

It didn't boot again so I'm going to format and install again and try to get into the drive and recover

Thrashzone - I'm in after a number of attempts - I can access the OS drive, can i create a restore disc through linux? Extract an ISO?

Is there anyway I can create a recovery disk of the recovery partition through linux? Seen as windows doesn't boot?

No, none I've ever seen.

If you have data on the drive you want to save you could boot a Linux live CD/DVD or a WinPE disc and backup your data.
