HDD isn't working

I have a HDD external Hard Drive for 3 years . I have saved many documents , photos , applications , even videos in this 320 gb WD. Then Now I got this Problem.
-when i plug it in my computer(windows 7) it lights up
-when i plug it in my computer(windows 7) it sounds just like a normal (usually the sound just like a normal usb is plugged)
-but it didn't show up in my computer , even in disk management

I've tried many solutions like;
-downloading FIX IT that provides in other forum
-unplugging it again
-etc.

Now I'm frustrated in fixing it

other recommending me change its letter assigned but how can i change it if there was nothing external hard drive detected

Please help me, I'm only 15 years old and I don't have any professional education back ground

Click start, click control panel; then once in control panel; click on device manager under system and security; then click device manager; check to see if it shows up there in device manager. If it does; right click on the device and uninstall it; then reboot; then hopefully windows will re-detect it and reinstall it. Once it does reboot again and see if that solves the issue. If not; post back.

Also have a pretty bad speaker setup which is a klipsch promedia 5.1 surround speaker setup with huge subwoofer and lg blu ray player/writer. Also a hp officejet pro 8600 plus wireless all in one and a logitech s7500 webcam.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with your drive. Did you tried what matts6887 suggested and does it resolved the issue?

I hope it did, but in case it didn't you can download the WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool and run an extended test to see if there are any errors detected by the software. You can download it from here:
