HDD Space (223gb) lost. help with it plz.

Hi, can some please help me with this i have 1tb HDD which shows only 931gb i partitioned it to drive C (110gb) and drive D (821gb). now the problem is drive D i selected all the files & folders along with hidden and system files and checked the size it says 598gb which should leave me free space of 223gb but the drive says i only have 31gb of free space. i checked the drive with WinDirStat it says 591gb used. can anyone tell me how to fix this problem and recover my huge wasted HDD space.

i am using windows 7 ultimate 646bit.

Can you please post a screenshot from DISKMGMT.MSC, full-screen and with the upper section columns spread so we can see the contents of each cell.

It's possible you have "system protection" enabled for that drive and with numerous restore points taken, which eats up the drive until you "clean house" and delete unwanted old restore points.

You can configure recovery on that drive to either (a) disable it completely, if it's not really needed for your situation, or (b) limit the percentage of the drive which is used for this functionality.

If you can post a screenshot from Windows Explorer showing the contents of that drive (including "hidden files") that would be very helpful.

thanx dsperber for the reply that helped alot. i didn't knew that drive D will have restore points too. the system protection was already turned off i deleted the restore points for drive D and now i have 227gb of free space changed the max usage to 1%.http://www.sevenforums.com/member.php?u=45985

dsperber say's it's an exessiv Restore Point and hi's right but if you have an imaging program scheduled to a daily basis maybe it's the culprit.

what do you mean by imaging program. if you mean creating a system image than i have created a system image on my drive D but not scheduled. also don't have any third party program installed for it.

There is no wrong that it is showing 931 GBs .
