HDD space missing

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my Western Digital hdd. Only 208,66 Gb are available while the original capacity should be at 500Gb. I've tried using different software to resolve the problem but without luck.

My specs are the following:

HDD: Western Digital Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5
CPU: AMD FX 6300 - Black Edition
GPU: MSI Radeon R9 380 Gaming - 4 Go
RAM: G.Skill Kit Extreme3 2 x 4 Go Ripjaws X 1600 MHz CAS9
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P
OS: Windows 7 x64

Here is also a screenshot of my disk management. Note that the total hdd space shown is also 208.66Gb instead of 500Gb and no unallocated space is shown either. Is there a way to recover the missing space or is my hdd dead?

Sounds like you cloned the drive from a smaller drive? I did that once and wound up with the larger drive being the same size as the smaller one. How I resolved it was to "image" (full disc backup) to a separate drive and then "restore" to the new drive. I then got all my data and the full capacity of the drive.

What was used to clone? For example, I believe Macrium Reflect, Image for Windows, AOMEI Backupper, EaseUS ToDo, and many others allow end-user to indicate the target HD's actual size and the source Clone should work and occupy all specified byte-space.

Have you tried extending the partition with minitool partition wizard?

The first thing I notice in the picture in post #1 is the disk is Dynamic.

I recommend 'Basic NTSF'.
