I have been connected to my 40 inch Sony Bravia using HDMI cable for some time. Now all of a sudden when i plug my HDMI cable into my laptop, the laptop turns off...Quickly. When i restart, it says windows has not been properly shut down. Need help.

That sounds like a 1) bad cable or 2) bad connections, which in order to avoid higher damage, the computer powers off immediately.

Have you tried a different HDMI cable?
