Solved Hdtune shows Reallocated Sector Count

Hdtune is showing Reallocated Sector Count, meanwhile WD HDD diagnostic's SMART status shows tick mark and OK symbol. Should I be worried?

Hi,

Both HDTune and WD Diagnostics show that Reallocated Sector Count is OK and have the same values relative to the threshold - I don't think there is anything to worry about.

Is your HDD otherwsie behaving as normal?

Ummm, sometimes I hear a very slight whirring noise while accessing a large file perhaps...like when dvd burners spin up but much much lower vibration and noise. Performance is okay I guess. Attaching HD sentinel alert and report:-

Hi,

I would run a chkdsk /R on this drive to make the bad sectors so data is written to them. After that keep an eye on the disk to ensure that the value doesn't start climbing above the 89 reported so far. If it does, then it might be time to consider a new disk.

I did that, the thing is windows shows ' 0 bad files found', although HD Tune is still showing 89! I'm trumped.

Hi,

I think that unless the HDD starts misbehaving, there isn't any reason to worry.

Having said that, its never a bad idea to have a backup of stuff in case it all goes wrong:

Did you mean "0 KB in bad sectors" ?

Because, the /r switch in CHKDSK checks the disk surface for bad sectors, and when it finds them, marks them unavailable for use. Each time you invoke CHKDSK it will report those sectors it has marked (and any new ones). If that count stays static, your h/d will be okay. It's when the count keeps increasing that you have to deep six the drive after you've saved your stuff.
If your Wininit report is telling you there are no bad sectors - DO NOT WORRY!

The /f switch fixes file system errors (indexes, journal, & security descriptors).

If you want to be completely sure about this 500g drive, buy Spinrite from Gibson, burn the bootable to cd and run level 4. This is the only utility I know of that can fix some bad sectors by turning the bits on & off, on-off, etc.

When it completes, you will see your hard drive in a large block diagram and whether or not Spinrite had to work on anything bad.

guys if problem continues, how about Seagate Discwizard to clone my c drive to a new 1TB HDD (it'll cost me an arm and a leg),and that way can I avoid reinstalling tons of stuff? Is there any proper tutorial to do that on a brand new HDD?

You do not need to pay anything to do this. Use free Macrium Reflect and the tutorial as posted in Post #6 above.
